[blparent] shaving legs

I just used that little torture device on my legs again today. :) I thought
of you all and this thread of conversation. I thought I would add that it
does get faster and less painful every time I do it. I especially like that
it will be weeks before I have to worry about it again.

I started shaving under my arms at about 12 and my legs at 13.  I usually
stick with high quality disposable raisers but grabbing my husband's
electric raiser in a pinch works okay as well.  I laugh when I think of how
my mom trialed an epilady which was a horrid torture device that sucked the
hair from your legs.  I even tried the product NADS at one point which we
all can remember was the fad for a little while because it was supposed to
be an all-natural paste that you simply rubbed on your legs and the hair was
supposed to gently come off your legs after a simple pull of a towel you
placed over the product.  Yah right!!  I got a huge boil on my leg from that
nasty stuff and stuck to the good trusty multi-blade raisers after that.  I
personally find men's unscented shaving cream to be my favorite because it's
thicker and stays on the legs and under-arms better until the job is done.
If I run-out of shaving cream, hair conditioner works nicely in the moment.

about shaving my legs.

I started needing to shave when I was in the fifth grade. I first used an
electric razor, but found it didn't shave close enough. I think my mother
was extremely worried about me cutting myself with a regular razor, because
instead of giving me one, she taught me to shave using a depilatory cream.
Unfortunately I got a horrific rash from the cream, so she then encouraged
me to go get my legs waxed, which was an experience I would not wish upon
even my worst enemies. It was so painful that I literally walked out of the
salon with half of one leg shaved and the rest unshaved. Finally when I was
14 or so I learned to use a regular disposable razor and have never turned
back. I think in general it is wise to start with the most effective tool
for the job, even if it's a sharp knife or a sharp razor, instead of using a
less-effective tool, getting frustrated and potentially making mistakes. I
have cut myself a few times with the hand razor, but it was never a serious
injury. Encourage her not to press too hard and to be sure to use soap or
shaving cream (I prefer soap myself) and she should be fine.
