Hmmmm!   Crossing the street!  O-O-O-O-O-kay?  When I cross the street, I
always pay attention to my parallel, (green light) and perpendicular, (red
light) traffic.  Though I am totally blind, I can only hear cars, not see
them.  So I pay attention to sudden traffic patterns.

This is not true for a street that borders a busy street near me, because
I have to deal with a lull, or break, in traffic.  There is no light, so
failure to reduce speed to avoid accidents is very common.

I've had problems crossing, when it appears the street is a 4-way stop. 
I don't like them!  LOL!  So I put up with the help I receive.

I have a fear of quiet cars.  I had one person tell me to pray to God to
get across the street.  Say what?  These cars don't give a dang!  And
that's why I'm with NFB on this one  I want mufflers on these cars, so I
can cross independently.
