Jennifer isn't kidding. Lime disease is nothing to mess around with. One of
my coworkers has a daughter who spent literally years recovering.

I wanted to ad a quick note on Lime disease as it is a serious condition
that can leave permanent damage. Any time you remove a tick you should be
aware of watching for a target like rash in the area or the development of
flue like symptoms in the days following. If either occurs you should go to
the doctor and get started on a round of antibiotics. This condition is
serious enough that the current recommendation is to start the antibiotics
immediately even if you do not have a positive diagnoses.

I am not trying to scare anyone. I live in Oklahoma and have pulled so many
ticks off in my life that I can not even remember the number. My children
have all had tick bites too as we can get them in urban parks and anywhere
here, and we go camping a lot. I do not even know anyone who has had Lime
disease. It has just become so much more common in recent decades, and it is
important to be aware of the latest treatment recommendations.

Hello everyone,

Thank you all so much for your advice regarding finding ticks on kids. This
was something I have never needed to do, so I had no idea whether it could
be done visually or not. I'm so glad to learn that it can be done, and my
husband and I have been happily using our new knowledge to check Austin over
every evening for ticks. Although I had sighted friends available to help,
it's great to know we actually don't need to count on them in this instance.
Now we know what to feel for ourselves, and, best of all, we can pass this
knowledge along to any other parents-blind or sighted-who might need it in
the future.

This is my favorite part about this list! I love it when I learn something
is possible I wasn't sure would be.

Thanks,

Melissa
