So out of curiosity, how did you know when your baby had taken in 1 oz?

When my daughter was smaller the only bottles that we found that worked for her were the Playtex nurser bottles with reusable liners.

You can get liquid formula in 2 ounce disposable bottles (maybe even one ounce). I use to use them for supplementing with breast milk. You can get them in packages of 4 or 8 and each package comes with one or two nipples. Just feed the baby half of the bottle, burp and feed the last half. I would personally save the bottles and use them to measure with. Liquid formula can get expensive, even if purchased from Amazon.
So, if you save the bottles, buy powdered, and use the old disposable bottles as measuring tools, then you are set to go.
