Egg cartons are great noise canceling aids, if you don't have money to invest in alternatives. In addition, the nice thing about egg cartons, is all you really have to do is take them to the wall, and make sure the entire wall is covered. Then, sounds should not sleep from your location. Hope this ups, oh yeah, and it will do some interesting things to the acoustics in the room, that your four-year-old might find entertaining.
