I use the Medela Harmony manual pump. I find that it works really well for 
me. Be careful with it because it can break even though it's a manual, but 
it's easy to clean, portable and doesn't have a million parts to it.

As for how I could tell the bottle was getting full, I didn't know this, but 
the breastmilk is obviously warm. I can feel it rising. Or, sometimes, if it 
doesn't feel all that warm to me, I just give the bottle a little shake to 
see how full it is.. Smiles.
