I always put my hand on her tummy or her bottom, those are the best places
according to my DR. Though, using one is good for when the Dr asks what
exactly the temp is or when the school says you cannot take your child to
school if the fever is 98.9.

A talking thermometer is a good tool to have, but I just have to say, it's
usually made into way more of a big deal than it actually is. One of the
many objections my family had to me keeping and raising my baby was the
whole issue of how I would take her temperature if she got sick. Easily
resolved; I bought a talking thermometer and there was nowhere for that
argument to go. But honestly, although I've used it a few times just to
check my intuition, I've always been able to tell when my daughter had a
fever just by the way she acted and the way her body felt. The back of a
hand on the forehead pretty much lets you know when it's time to break out
the Tylenol, and when babies or kids get sick enough to see a doctor, you
won't need a thermometer to give you the news. So get one, have it on hand
as a resource, but seriously, don't break the bank or obsess about it too
much.

Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may
kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at
evening.--Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

I have a couple infrared talking thermometers I bought on Amazon. The one I
have is a Sanomedic non-contact talking thermometer, but it doesn't look
like that specific one is available anymore, at least not on Amazon. But
there are a couple of others on Amazon now that sound similar (though I
cannot vouch for their quality since I have never used them).
Healthsmart 18-935-000 Digiscan Multi-function Infrared Thermometer
or:
Mobi Technologies DualScan Ultra Thermometer

I like infrared ones because they can work just by touching it to the
forehead, so you can check a child's temperature while they are sleeping
without disturbing them.

Another one I found on Amazon (but the seller is MaxiAids) which is not an
infrared one so it has a probe is:
Talking Fast Reading Digital Clinical Thermometer but it seems to have good
reviews. I also have one that works like this, and it may be this one, and
if so, it seems accurate.
