Hi Jo Elizabeth. I have Word 2007 on this machine, which does use the
ribbon. I also have the ribbon menu feature of JAWS turned off. If you
want to turn off the ribbon menu, you can do that by JAWS+v, type "ribbon"
(no quotes into the search box, and then set the ribbon option as you wish.

So, you're in Word with your document open.
1. press alt to get into the ribbon.
2. Press right arrow to get to the "Review" tab.
3. Press tab several times which should give you Proofing, Research,
Thesaurus, Translation, Translation Screen, Set Language, and then finally
Worc Count which is a button
4. Press space, and the Word Count dialog should open for you.

Hope this works for you. I don't have access to Word 2010 (or 2013) here at
home, but I think Word Count should be under the Review tab in those
versions as well. One thing I've discovered about Office 2010 is that I
need to press return on the tabs in order to access their contents. This is
not the case in Word 2007.

Hope this helps.

I used to know it, but these ribbons they have instead of the old menus
really mess with me sometimes. Thanks.
