[blparent] so how's school

So, can't you just schedule the same van to drop off your child, but not
you? Ad I guess if you have to wait an hour, use your time wisely and
volunteer somewhere ein the school. Perhaps the classroom, the workroom,
the library, etc. They had so many jobs for me, I liked working with the
kiddos who had trouble reading.

As for the paratransit here in rio rancho, they will not allow children
under the age of 18 on the van with our without an adult.

Hi,
Most paratransit systems will not allow you to drop your child off and then
come back. Here in my city, you have to wait a minimum of 2 hours before
they will come back and pick you up, and I have lived in cities where it is
1 hour. A lot of times, I just take public transit so I will only have to
wait for the public transit bus for only 30 minutes versus 2 hours. I have
also never heard of a transit system that did not take kids, although there
would have to of course be an adult with the child.
I usually just put my daughter on the school bus myself, because the school
is not too far from my house, and it is served by a separate public transit
route, so I would have to ride all the way downtown to transfer to that
route and then ride all the way back out again, even though the school is
only a mile or less away. I could technically walk to her school, but it it
is too long of a walk for my daughter, and there is sidewalk only part of
the way plus two busy streets to cross, so I would only do that if I am
doing it alone, and if I am with her, I will just take the public transit
bus even though it is a long trip due to having to transfer. Sometimes, she
does want me to pick her up, but I try to explain that it is better for her
to take the school bus, as we would have a long ride and a transfer to deal
with on the public bus, and transit takes at least 2 hours to come back. She
enjoys riding the school bus now, but then again, this is her first year in
kindergarten at a public school and riding the school bus, so the novelty
may wear off after a while. I like it though, because the school bus stop is
right in front of our complex's gate, so we can easily walk to it, and there
is sidewalk where I can wait for her bus to come along with the other
parents with children. I think the best thing to do is just try to explain
to your daughter the best you can that there is no easy way you can pick her
up and that, right now, the school bus is the best way for her to get home.
Maybe you can explain the long wait time for paratransit. With younger kids
I think it is difficult for them to understand the logistics of everything,
but since my daughter and I regularly take public transit together and have
even taken paratransit sometimes, she has an idea of how long it can take,
so if I explain it she understands somewhat.
Misty

I've never heard of a peratransit company not taking children under 18. As
far as them dropping her off and bringing me back wright away, I have to
wait an hour before the next van picks me up.

The Paratransit up here wouldn't even allow kiddos on the Van if they are
under 18. Maybe, you could ask the paratransit company and see if they could
do just that, take you and your child and then immediately bring you home.
If you don't ask, you won't know.

Hello all. I am a guardian of a nine-yearold girl. She lives with her mom
but spends at least the weekends with me. She normally takes the school bus
to schho, but sometimes, she wants her dad (me) to either take her or pick
her up from school

Unfortunately, I use peratransit. Like most peratransit systems, you can't
just drop off and go back. Breann's mom understand that for me to take or
pick Bre up from school would be very dificult. I have not yet been able to
get through to Breann that it would be very difficult for me to do this kind
of a thig.

Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks.

A couple of weeks ago you all had some transportation or walking issues to
get your children to school, so are these issues resolved?
And how do your children like their teachers, their new friends, recess?
