I almost always wore sneakers and earrings and if you wear make-up or do
your hair a certain way, bring the items you use.
Sneakers, kids and teachers are amazed that anyone can tie their shoes
without looking.
Little girls are amazed that anyone can put earrings or make-up on without a
mirror and
Demonstrating how you, a blind person combs or curls your hair speaks
volumes.

This is where as blind individuals we walk a fine line. As we want to be
considered normal, we will never achieve this if the public doesn't know how
we do what we do. Once they see and learn, they can accept us.

See, what we don't see is how our sighted peers do what they do. We can't
see them fumbling with keys and locks, but to other sighted individuals, it
is normal. We don't see them get in their cars, but to other sighted peeps,
it is normal.
We can't see them changing diapers and putting little jackets on their kids,
but to other sighted peeps, it is normal.

Once they see us in these situations, it will become normal. Like I say,
education is our best asset.

I have spoken to classes before years ago about blindness. If you have an
opportunity to do this, you should really consider it. I need to tell you
that you may get some very interesting questions from the students. Also, it
is good if you can braing any aids that you use to show them how things
work.

Well, we're three weeks in, and everything seems okay. I couldn't work out
a deal with the buses, so Dad drops the kiddo off in the morning on his way
to work and the teacher helped me set it up with another mom, whose daughter
was in her class last year, to bring Sarah home. That mom is big into the
PTO, so I may volunteer with her; still not sure about that. The teacher
wants me to go talk to the classes when they do a unit on their senses
pretty soon, so I'm mulling that over.

kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at
evening.--Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

A couple of weeks ago you all had some transportation or walking issues to
get your children to school, so are these issues resolved?
And how do your children like their teachers, their new friends, recess?
