Hi, As someone has cared for baby after baby for 20 years as a licensed 
foster parent and licensed childcare provider I can absolutely say you need 
almost nun of what people say you need. It can be made simple. Graco is the 
best infant seat. They have the Graco 40 which will come with a base, but it 
isn't needed as the car seat has the slits for the seatbelt to go over the 
seat to install in any car without the base. Next you will need a good baby 
carrier to where baby on your front and back when it is older which will 
make you not need a stroller as often. A beco, ergo, mae tie, Tula are all 
brands plus many many more. Try finding a natural baby store and they will 
let yu try them on. Next strollers many of us don't end up using them, but 
when we do many like the snap and go so you can snap the car seat on top for 
a less bulky stroller that has a place for your car seat once you get where 
you are going. Some like the city mini, or graco flip. I'd wouldn't be 
caught dead without some good swaddle blankets. minimum 40 by 40 inches to 
get a good swaddle for as long as you need it to. When the baby doesn't need 
it for swaddling it the blankets make great light weight toddler blankets. 
All those tiny cute receiving blankets that are useless after 3 months make 
absolutely awesome burp rags as you can drape it over your shoulder down 
your arm and back and save your shirt. As for the cute little outfits while 
pins are great when one is exhausted one can't bother to pin. My preferred 
solution is the cheap laundry bags people wash braws and such in. Stuff the 
whole in including the socks and dump in the laundry hamper. Now that is all 
I think you must have. I agree one piece outfits are easier, but I love my 
babies to be all dolled up so I use the laundry bag solution.

Things that are nice to have in my opinion are swing  bouncer and a play 
mat. I like the Fisher price cradle swing, the skip hop play mat although 
most are fine, and I prefer bouncers that lay back so the baby doesn't fall 
forward. Have fun and enjoy your little.

Reading reviews can be helpful, but so can going to a baby store and just 
explore all the floor models. Babies R us is usuallying to take things down 
for you to explore further.

Congratulations. Keep asking questions. There are many on here with a very 
wide variety of experiences.

Hi all,

My husband and I are expecting our first baby in April, and we’re super 
excited. I’ve been a member of the NFB most of my life and have had a good 
amount of experience with babies, but this preparing for baby thing is way 
more overwhelming than I thought. The internet almost makes it worse. There 
are about 3263 things I’m supposed to put on my registry, not to mention 
that most things don’t come with a “great for blind parents” disclaimer. 
Anyway, any tips about necessary gear or useful blindness specific products 
would be amazing! I’ll take any advice, but my numero uno priority is an 
infant carseat that’s light and sturdy without a base since neither of us 
drive, and a good stroller with an easy fold.

I’m excited to hear from everyone and to get to know you.
