Tape might not work but I found some iron on patches that I can put in to the back of their clothes on the inside where the tags are.  They have different shapes on them that I think might be okay.  That way the school can see the patches and the kids and I can feel them.

I have an idea but I'm not sure if it would work. Do you get tape that is a different texture but that wouldn't be annoying to the children? Could you label their clothing and ok, I guess if the school wants names on it then fine but could you teach the kids to ID clothing by the texture or colour of the tape?

Hi,

I don't understand the braille clothes either, although they might work for some I guess.  As to labeling, my kids are pretty good at bringing their stuff home from school.  It's just that the school requires everything be labeled and I've been having someone sighted help where I can for years now.
I just thought I might try to find a less sight intensive way to do it where my kid's could be involved without them having to write since one is blind, and the other two are not quite reading or writing yet.

I don't really get this at all, how has someone never shown this parent how to empower her child to match their clothes no matter what clothing the child has? It's so easy and no, I don't stick to one or two colours in my own closet! All it takes is trusted sighted friends or family and a system.

As for the labeling question, some wonderful ones have been made already but perhaps another idea is to have someone come over and spend a little time giving a hand with labeling clothing in a way that makes sense to both you and your child. Is the child able to take some responsibility for clothing at school like bringing back what they take to school and if not, is there maybe a special place the child can be encouraged to put things so that they know to go back there and find the items again? These suggestions may not be suitable because I don't know the child or you but just some thoughts.

So do I.  Last summer my son lost most of the clothes he took to camp with him because nothing could be labeled, and I coulnd't go through the lost and found.

Something I do with labeling my sons clothes for school is I get a unique colored tape and then put a piece of it on the tag or inside of the clothing if it's something like a jacket. I'm able to write print letters from memory which is helpful but if you are not able to hand print letters you can always do a unique thing like write a X or put a dot of puffy paint on the tape. something that will easily identify that the item is your child's clothes is all the school needs.  They make tape in every color and every design imaginable. You can find a plethora of options in the craft section of nearly any box store. You could pick up zebra tape for example and everyone will know that the zebra tape is on only your child's clothing.
