[blparent] Infant led feeding

I've heard of this, but don't really "get" why it is preferred in the U.K.
What is its goal and why is attaining the goal better then using purees?
Lots of people have a European fetish. I'm not saying you are one of them,
just that some Americans tend to think for reasons I don't understand that
Europe has it all figured out. I'd like to know more about this method, what
it's goals are and why it seems to be done in the U.K. Babies are babies all
around the world, and unless they are very very ill, they eventually get
eating figured out.

I hadn't read a book on it, but I followed the basic concept of giving my
baby small, soft pieces of many of the things we adults were eating during
the second half of her first year of life. It seemed to work well enough,
in that she adapted to table food well and had no problem switching easily
to solids. She's as picky as any six-year-old can be today, so I don't know
that busting my butt to keep nursing for the first year and sticking to
organic baby foods and infant-led feeding did as much good as I had hoped it
would.

Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may
kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at
evening.--Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

dear collective wisdom:
Have any of you heard of or practiced infant led feeding? In the UK it is
called infant led weaning. Basically, it is letting your child feed
themselves starting from about six months of age. You use small pieces of
what ever you're eating. There is a book on this on iBooks. It is called,
infant led weaning. There is also a cookbook. I got the book on infant led
weaning and I am curious if anyone has tried it and what it has been like.
Thanks for any help.
