The main thing is you want their feet to firmly reach the ground so they can 
control the bike when they get on and off.If the bike is too tall, they'll 
have trouble getting on and off, and getting started and stopped.

Why do you care? Are you worried about
safety?
My advice would be to take them to a bike shop, have the bike people there
measure them and tell you and then get a bike at the shop or if they are
less serious at Target.

Hello Blind Parents,

I was looking at bikes and this question has been plaguing me for quite some
time? How can you tell what is an appropriate bike size for a chld? I have
two teens and a preteen but don't know what is appropriate bike sizes. They
do not live with me and previously their father bought the bikes.
