[blparent] Breast pumps, the runaround

The kind of pump you rent from the hospital is a
hospital grade pump. It is not very portable and is the kind of pump you
would be using if your baby was in the hospital and you couldn't nurse.
Any woman can rent a hospital grade pump, all you need do is hand them a
credit card.
The kind of pump you are hoping to get from insurance is a non hospital
grade pump, it is the same kind of pump you can buy at Target, off of
Amazon, from Babies-R-Us or any other store.
The difference in pumps is in their suction power, the hospital grade pumps
provide way more suction then the non hospital grade pumps.
I'm curious, where are you delivering? Why won't it be at your local
hospital?
Either way, your local hospital is in the baby delivery business, and all
you need do is remind them that they are also in the business of renting out
hospital grade pumps.
Many women rent hospital grade pumps (myself included) and many women move
while they are still using a hospital grade pump.
Part of your problem is that you haven't had your baby yet. My insurance
would only shell out the money for a non hospital grade pump once they had
proof that I'd had the baby.
This isn't as bad as it sounds, I rented a hospital grade pump at the time
of discharge and so I wasn't without a pump.

I don't think WIC here covers breast pumps, but they do cover formula.

I don't think I could do a manual pump even if there was a concensus that
they worked well. Due to my pregnancy, I have a horrible case of carpal
tunnel in both hands, and I do good to make a fist and grip things these
days! lol I can only imagine what it would be like having to squeeze that
much, that often! haha

If all else fails, I'll look into the hospital route, aalthough I won't be
delivering at my local hospital. I'll also try going the Medicaid route as
well.

Thanks everyone for your imput, it's much appreciated! :)
