Pumping will take twenty minutes to a half hour each time you do it, which is roughly the same amount of time as nursing would take,depending on your baby's feeding patterns. Also, there are plenty of other ways to include the father in baby care, if that's your only reason for pumping.

			You won't get as much rest as you think because your body will feel the need to express milk either via the baby or via the pump and in order to build and maintain supply, you will want/need to express that milk. 
Pump if that's what you want to do, just don't plan on it providing any rest. 
I really think Mommy lit has screwed up our thinking with a lot of this, it makes pumping sound like turning on a water spicket or maybe more accurately, plugging into a gas pump like with a car, i.e. the fluid is always there, in the right amount and there is very little thought or effort involved.

The only reason I want to pump is to allow the father the opportunity to feed, as well as ensuring that I maintain a good milk supply. I've read that pumping not only ensures a longer milk supply, but sometimes it even can make sure you make more milk.

But mostly it's because I want the father to have the opportunity to feed his son on occasion and I can get some rest! lol
