[blparent] blind friendly breast pumps?

I agree with Tara. Manual pumps--well, I'd say they suck, but the problem is they don't. At least not fast enough to be worth your time, unless you'll hardly be pumping at all.

Your best bet might be to contact La Leche League or go to a baby store with a friend and see if you can get your hands on some actual pumps. Explore a few brands. Ask questions about them. Decide which features you really need. For example, you can keep time with a talking watch or an alarm on your phone, so you really don't have to use a timer on your breast pump unless that's the only way to turn it on. You also don't have to use a readout feature because you can always measure the milk afterward in your own bottles with raised lines on them or in a measuring cup. Even if it's flat panel, all you really need is a way to turn on the machine. Find a pump with the fewest bells and whistles and the simplest screen you can mark the way you want it.

Good luck,

Thanks Ladies for your input!

I was thinking of going manual because I thought those might be more "blind friendly" than the electric ones. Does anyone have a preference of manual vs electric? Is one easier to use than the other?

How do you know if your pump is "hospital grade"? I was going to call my insurance and see if they provide a pump, but wonder if there's questions I should ask about it if they provide one, so that I can know if it's worth them spending time and money sending it to me.

Thanks bunches,
Amanda
