For the alarm question, you could set an alarm on your phone or there are tactile and talking timers you can get where you can set the timer without visual help, and the kids can learn to set it too. Many of the online blindness stores carry either talking or tactile timers. There are also some talking watches that have built-in timers. Since I have an iPhone, I usually ask Siri to set the timer for me when I need it, or I will ask Siri to set an alarm.
