Good Morning Everyone:

My children have been attending at the Maryland School for the blind now or the past 13 years plus now. I started out with this too. Realizing that much of the paperwork that comes home in our children’s book bags isn’t just generated from their teachers. It’s generated from everywhere. Every department, every other teacher. It’s usually sent and distributed from the Principal or the “Education Office.” So, I have found that the best thing to do would be to meet with, or call that principal and request that any documentation that comes home with your child be sent to you electronically. That’s what I did. It took awhile for everyone to catch on. But, they eventually did. As it stands now, much less print comes home with David and Virginia. Even their registration forms can be found online now. Not all of them are accessible yet. But, they’re getting there. Unfortunately, accessibility can be a long slow work in progress???

> Hi all! I?m hoping for some help. My daughter started kindergarten this week. I like her teacher. She seems like a nice person and she seems willing to work with me. I let her know that sending home print is not accessible to me or my husband. We need documents that she sends home in an email. So what do I get on the first day of school? Three print documents. Has anyone encountered this problem and what did you do about it? do I have the right to have documents pertaining to my child in an accessible format? On a different note, have any of you volunteered with your children?s school and what did you do and how did you accommodate for your blindness? Thanks for any help!
