[blParent] What do you expect from you, your child and their teacher(s)?: 774-556-0923, Room 3?

I am not a moderator either, but he is bothering no one. I may not feel comfortable with some of the parents here, but we can not just kick them out so why kick someone out because they are not a parent, or may or may not interact with children? I just do not see that. Also so what if he is making money through the chat lines. If they paid better I would do the same. It is money after all when you have no job. Everyone talks about wanting to work, but when people are doing whatever they choose to do they get judged for doing it or told they are using people to do it. Regular jobs use people too. They just do it differently. Chat lines just are not worth it for the amount of time you have to be on one for. You pretty much have to live on them. Not to mention some phone companies will not let you call them. I use skype. I talk on one, but I do not get paid. I have no clue if he interacts with children or not to be honest.

It actually makes me uncomfortable since he doesn’t have children, and to my knowledge she doesn’t interact with them. I’m not quite sure how anyone who don’t have children can be of any type of source, and that’s for a lot of those chat rooms, you get paid a little bit of something based on how many minutes you use, so I kind of feel like he is trying to curve his chat room into a blind parent something so he can have somebody to talk to, and so he can get minutes for his room. I hesitate to post as a mom knowing that Eric has no children, and Eric is out on this form, but since I don’t run it I am not one that can say if he can or cannot stay.

As most of you know, I have warned Eric on several occasions about off-topic postings that are just not relevant to blind parenting in particular. Quite honestly, if someone posts a "puff piece", I likely wouldn't say anything, but when Eric posts them repeatedly, knowing they are off topic, I did not feel we could afford to let that go unchallenged. The most recent posting of a forwarded article was prefaced by Eric asking how he could make it on topic which seemed to me to be a rather blatant acknowledgement that he was intentionally posting something that was not on topic. I mentioned then that if he continued to do that I would put him on moderated status. For now, that practice has stopped.
>
> It feels to me, though, that he simply has to have something in progress to stretch the purpose of this list to make his day complete. I believe there have been two posts this week inviting people to chat in a chat room that he apparently has available. I am certain that if we were to ask Eric, he would say the purpose is not to chat with him, but to have a place where this topic can be discussed. Still, without knowing what else happens in his chat room and without knowing what kind of advice is given, I find myself feeling negative as a moderator about his advertising a chat room based upon topics that are being discussed here repeatedly. Certainly we have had messages suggesting other sources of information for blind parents with which I am not familiar as a moderator. Therefore, I hesitate to react to this particular announcement from Eric wanting to be sure I'm not letting my own generally negative feelings about other posts of his to affect my judgement. if he has an explanation for his particular interest in this list, it might be useful for us to know what it is. I am on a number of lists and have not seen this sort of activity from him on other lists. For example, Eric just forwarded an article to our Electronics-Talk list about a new web-based interface to Apple Music that was generally helpful. That post seems much more relevant and useful that some of the things he has forwarded here.
>
> Normally, I would say that discussing what is not on topic is most appropriately done with me directly and not on the list. However, since there has been some reaction to this post, I would like to get a sense of what you feel is fair. Knowing that we are all adults and have to take some responsibility for ourselves, there has to be an expectation that any resource posted here may or may not be helpful. What strikes me most negatively about this particular situation is the repetition based upon specific topics. How does this strike others on this list?

But a chat room does seem way over the top to me for someone who isn't a parent, when most of the people on the list are women. And the question is vague and odd.
