Are you part of the blind parents connect group on Facebook? If you are, and you have not posted this review there, it will probably be a good idea to do so. I know a lot of parents there would find it helpful.

The computer program we were given was Lexia. This was an online computer program that was designed to teach children how to read. The pro to this program was that my child could do it independently. The other good thing about this program was it did a little bit of putting the sounds together to make words. However, there were two big problems with the program. First of all, it started to heavily focus on sight words The second problem was my child it was beyond bored! Getting her to work on the program was starting to be painful for everybody! Then I got one of those lovely Facebook ads for a program called children learnin reading. I was feeling rather desperate so I clicked on The ad. The information about the program said that it required a lot of parent involvement and it did not use a computer. When I messaged the creator, I found out more about it. The program Is a phonics-based system composed of around 50 or 60 lesson plans. Best of all, the program is in a text based PDF format. After finding out it was text based PDF, I took the plunge and paid 70 bucks. Boy am I glad I did! I don’t think this program could be any more accessible to blind parents. I have easy access to it on my iPhone or on my braille note taking device in electronic braille. In addition to all the lessons, there are a lot of fun games you can play with your child or children. The program could be easily adapted not only for a blind parent, but for a blind child as well. Best of all, there are no more fights about doing school at home. My daughter is doing so well and she’s so proud of herself! I hope it’s OK that I passed on a review of the children learning reading program. I know myself as a blind parent, I always enjoy hearing about tips, tricks, devices or programs that make our lives easier. A link To the Children learningChildren learning reading website is posted at the bottom of this email.
