My information is older, but same should work.  Several years ago I wrote an article for the Monitor, Surviving Teen Driving, and I had the same questions and got great support.

Line up some friends or people you know that would feel comfortable in helping out with the permit driving, accompanying your teen while learning.  Check your states requirements.  Enter them in a GOOD driving school, is worth the money.

Hi, blind parents. My daughter is 16 and taking driver's education classes,
hoping to go through all the steps and get her license soon. Her dad and I
are both blind; he was able to drive until his early 30s; I only ever drove
a bike and a small tractor a few times. I'm wondering what other blind
parents have done to support their kids' driver's ed process. I'm studying
the written test, and of course I'm paying any related fees, but what else?
Interested in anyone's thoughts. Thanks.
