A couple things that worked for us was that I could hear a difference in my
daughter's voice and she moved differently.
Basically find behaviors that are nonvisual that you can pick up on. Also,
realize that this method and/or this period in time may not work for you.

method advocates letting the child be naked for a while while you teach them
to go to the potty and then move on to pants but no underwear. One of the
big concepts that they stress is looking for signals that they need to go so
you can prompt them to get on the potty. I'm finding this very challenging
since it is mostly a visual thing and mostly subtle. My husband has picked
up on a few things since he is sighted but when I am alone with Alex, I am
finding that I only know he's had an accident after he goes. Sometimes my
husband can catch it right before it happens and rush him to the potty but I
never can. Does anyone have any techniques for figuring out these signals in
a non visual way?

Hi, Ronit.
Good luck with this; it does work out eventually. I agree with waiting
a little longer, too, when kids are cognitively a little further
along. We got serious about potty-training when my daughter Abigail
was close to 3-1/2, and by then I could just have little conversations
about it with her, reminding her that if she needs to go potty, she
should tell me. Now, she almost always just takes herself to the potty
when she needs to and is pretty independent. But I guess it's great if
you can go through this process earlier, too.

Thanks everyone. We feel pretty srongly that this is the right time,
Alex seems ready and he is also in fulltime daycare and has just been
moved to the classroom where they work on potty training, so it
doesn't really make sense for us to wait longer. I Know there's lots
of opinions on when is the right time so I'm not going to get in to
all that. He's very verbal for his age which does help and it is a
learning process for sure. Just one of those things about parenting
that's extra challenging, in my opinion, anyway.

Well, yes and no. We used to have a Eureka vacuum and honestly, it had this
stupid bag and I accidently sucked up a tiny sock and it went right up into
the motor and melted the belt and it all over heated and well, that's how we
ended up with the Dyson. I don't want to take the chance again that
anything will melt the belt or burn ou the motor. hahaha

So now I have a question about baby monitors, way back when, I'm talking 20
years ago, baby monitors like most cordless phones were an open invitation
for crooks to listen into your homes.
If you had a police scanner, which we always have, seriously, you could hear
peeps talking in their homes.
And I'm saying, you could hear word for word what they said and if they said
they were leaving for the day, or what ever. The same with cordless phones.
At least with these, you really didn't have a clue who these peeps were but
with the baby monitors, you had to be fairly close to them for the scanners
to work.
So do you suppose they make them better these days, so nosey peeps like me
cannot listen in.
After I found out this, I refused to own one.
We don't have a scanner for that reason, it's a hobby, listening to planes
and stuff, the baby monitor stuff we discovered by accident while we were at
a friends house.

I was never really worried about this because in our home I only used it in
our son's room during the night and at nap times and turned it off all other
times. I heard that they're supposed to be better now concerning that topic
then they used to be but who knows.

I know that some love bagless vacuums but I tell you after having one for
the past 2.5 years I'm done and going back to the bag vacs. I am so
grossed-out and tired of having to reach into the canister to pull hair and
junk out that won't fall out when I open it over the garbage. Also, there
is a lot of dust and junk that gets back into the air when the canister is
opened and I end-up coughing. I'm currently researching bag vacuums that
will be best for us and I can't wait to get back to just grabbing the bag
when it's full and tossing the sucker into the garbage. GRIN

Well, yes and no. We used to have a Eureka vacuum and honestly, it had this
stupid bag and I accidently sucked up a tiny sock and it went right up into
the motor and melted the belt and it all over heated and well, that's how we
ended up with the Dyson. I don't want to take the chance again that
anything will melt the belt or burn ou the motor. hahaha

Hope that goes great for you and it's so exciting when our munchkins begin
to really understand the concept. My son Dawson who is now 2 years and 8
months is beginning to consistently go poop in the potty and he couldn't be
more proud. We like to grab our musical instruments after he's gone and
have a little party, dancing around the room and singing made-up songs about
having potty power. I got several potty training videos for him from the
library and the one that really had the most impact on him was Potty Power.
We also leave the bathroom door open at home so he can see what my husband
and I are doing in there and so that we can talk about it while we're going
potty. Dawson also loves to flush and close the lid for us when we're done
which reinforces where the pee and poop is supposed to go. Going pee in the
potty is not consistent right now but I think that mostly has to do with the
fact that aim is a challenging thing. Even though we have Dawson sit down
and have him try and hold his ding-dong down, sometimes he sprays outside
the potty and that upsets him because of the mess. We're trying to get him
used to the shield in-between the legs but those are always so unnatural and
not the most comfortable. Something else I have recently started is giving
Dawson a little prize every time he goes on his potty. They're just little
toys I grabbed from the dollar bin at Target and he lights-up when he gets
handed his new little toy as he's on the potty chair. As soon as this
becomes consistent I've explained to him that his final grand prize is
getting to play at Ikea in the play room that has a ball pit. This is
something he's been wanting to do for months now and a child must be
entirely out of diapers to play there.

Thanks everyone. We feel pretty srongly that this is the right time, Alex
seems ready and he is also in fulltime daycare and has just been moved to
the classroom where they work on potty training, so it doesn't really make
sense for us to wait longer. I Know there's lots of opinions on when is the
right time so I'm not going to get in to all that. He's very verbal for his
age which does help and it is a learning process for sure. Just one of those
things about parenting that's extra challenging, in my opinion, anyway.

We have just started potty training our 27 month old son and we are
using the method described in the ebook "oh crap potty training."
Basically this method advocates letting the child be naked for a
while while you teach them to go to the potty and then move on to
pants but no underwear. One of the big concepts that they stress is
looking for signals that they need to go so you can prompt them to
get on the potty. I'm finding this very challenging since it is
mostly a visual thing and mostly subtle. My husband has picked up on
a few things since he is sighted but when I am alone with Alex, I am
finding that I only know he's had an accident after he goes.
Sometimes my husband can catch it right before it happens and rush
him to the potty but I never can. Does anyone have any techniques for
figuring out these signals in a non visual way?

So now I have a question about baby monitors, way back when, I'm talking 20
years ago, baby monitors like most cordless phones were an open invitation
for crooks to listen into your homes.
If you had a police scanner, which we always have, seriously, you could hear
peeps talking in their homes.
And I'm saying, you could hear word for word what they said and if they said
they were leaving for the day, or what ever. The same with cordless phones.
At least with these, you really didn't have a clue who these peeps were but
with the baby monitors, you had to be fairly close to them for the scanners
to work.
So do you suppose they make them better these days, so nosey peeps like me
cannot listen in.
After I found out this, I refused to own one.
We don't have a scanner for that reason, it's a hobby, listening to planes
and stuff, the baby monitor stuff we discovered by accident while we were at
a friends house.

I didn't find potty challenging. I found the various approaches annoying,
but once I got it into my head that it was just like training a dog, I was
fine. Most of the cues you will be told about are visual because that's what
most people go on, if you pardon the pun. You just need to find cues that
work for you.

Thanks everyone. We feel pretty srongly that this is the right time, Alex
seems ready and he is also in fulltime daycare and has just been moved to
the classroom where they work on potty training, so it doesn't really make
sense for us to wait longer. I Know there's lots of opinions on when is the
right time so I'm not going to get in to all that. He's very verbal for his
age which does help and it is a learning process for sure. Just one of those
things about parenting that's extra challenging, in my opinion, anyway.

We have just started potty training our 27 month old son and we are
using the method described in the ebook "oh crap potty training."
Basically this method advocates letting the child be naked for a
while while you teach them to go to the potty and then move on to
pants but no underwear. One of the big concepts that they stress is
looking for signals that they need to go so you can prompt them to
get on the potty. I'm finding this very challenging since it is
mostly a visual thing and mostly subtle. My husband has picked up on
a few things since he is sighted but when I am alone with Alex, I am
finding that I only know he's had an accident after he goes.
Sometimes my husband can catch it right before it happens and rush
him to the potty but I never can. Does anyone have any techniques for
figuring out these signals in a non visual way?

stupid bag and I accidently sucked up a tiny sock and it went right up into
the motor and melted the belt and it all over heated and well, that's how we

I tried with my daughter at two years old, and the attempt went down in
flames. When she was three and a half, she was trained in ten days, even at
night, with only a couple of accidents since then.

older than this when they were trained; of course, they are now adults and I

you can prompt them to get on the potty. I'm finding this very challenging
since it is mostly a visual thing and mostly subtle. My husband has picked
up on a few things since he is sighted but when I am alone with Alex, I am
finding that I only know he's had an accident after he goes. Sometimes my
husband can catch it right before it happens and rush him to the potty but I
never can. Does anyone have any techniques for figuring out these signals in
a non visual way?

Another good video is Go Potty Go! Lots of catchy tunes about going,
washing your hands, being a big kid--they'll drive you crazy, but they might
help your son. What I liked about the video was that it stressed the
feeling in your tummy you get when it's time to go potty, starting to make
that connection.

Hope that goes great for you and it's so exciting when our munchkins begin
to really understand the concept. My son Dawson who is now 2 years and 8
months is beginning to consistently go poop in the potty and he couldn't be
more proud. We like to grab our musical instruments after he's gone and
have a little party, dancing around the room and singing made-up songs about
having potty power. I got several potty training videos for him from the
library and the one that really had the most impact on him was Potty Power.
We also leave the bathroom door open at home so he can see what my husband
and I are doing in there and so that we can talk about it while we're going
potty. Dawson also loves to flush and close the lid for us when we're done
which reinforces where the pee and poop is supposed to go. Going pee in the
potty is not consistent right now but I think that mostly has to do with the
fact that aim is a challenging thing. Even though we have Dawson sit down
and have him try and hold his ding-dong down, sometimes he sprays outside
the potty and that upsets him because of the mess. We're trying to get him
used to the shield in-between the legs but those are always so unnatural and
not the most comfortable. Something else I have recently started is giving
Dawson a little prize every time he goes on his potty. They're just little
toys I grabbed from the dollar bin at Target and he lights-up when he gets
handed his new little toy as he's on the potty chair. As soon as this
becomes consistent I've explained to him that his final grand prize is
getting to play at Ikea in the play room that has a ball pit. This is
something he's been wanting to do for months now and a child must be
entirely out of diapers to play there.

Thanks everyone. We feel pretty srongly that this is the right time, Alex
seems ready and he is also in fulltime daycare and has just been moved to
the classroom where they work on potty training, so it doesn't really make
sense for us to wait longer. I Know there's lots of opinions on when is the
right time so I'm not going to get in to all that. He's very verbal for his
age which does help and it is a learning process for sure. Just one of those
things about parenting that's extra challenging, in my opinion, anyway.

I too love my dyson. It's easy to use and easy to clean, and works great.

Roomba was entertaining but couldn't navigate around clutter. As for kids
being afraid of them, that probably depends on the kid. Mine was afraid of
our sump pump. Didn't mean we didn't expect her to deal with it, and our
yard at the time drained in such a way that that pump was almost always
running.

Dyson, especially if you have small children floating around. The dyson
will pick up all that stuff our little ones bring in from who knows where
but if it accidently sucks up a sock or a certain toy, it goes directly into
the canister, no where near the motor or belt. The roomba I hear is
frightening to children as it just goes here and there without supervision.

Yes, this was one of the ones we also got from the library and it's super
cute. I also let my son decorate his potty chair with Thomas the Train
stickers which gave him a huge sense of pride and made his potty even more
special.

Another good video is Go Potty Go! Lots of catchy tunes about going,

Hope that goes great for you and it's so exciting when our munchkins begin
to really understand the concept. My son Dawson who is now 2 years and 8
months is beginning to consistently go poop in the potty and he couldn't be
more proud. We like to grab our musical instruments after he's gone and
have a little party, dancing around the room and singing made-up songs about
having potty power. I got several potty training videos for him from the
library and the one that really had the most impact on him was Potty Power.
We also leave the bathroom door open at home so he can see what my husband
and I are doing in there and so that we can talk about it while we're going
potty. Dawson also loves to flush and close the lid for us when we're done
which reinforces where the pee and poop is supposed to go. Going pee in the
potty is not consistent right now but I think that mostly has to do with the
fact that aim is a challenging thing. Even though we have Dawson sit down
and have him try and hold his ding-dong down, sometimes he sprays outside
the potty and that upsets him because of the mess. We're trying to get him
used to the shield in-between the legs but those are always so unnatural and
not the most comfortable. Something else I have recently started is giving
Dawson a little prize every time he goes on his potty. They're just little
toys I grabbed from the dollar bin at Target and he lights-up when he gets
handed his new little toy as he's on the potty chair. As soon as this
becomes consistent I've explained to him that his final grand prize is
getting to play at Ikea in the play room that has a ball pit. This is
something he's been wanting to do for months now and a child must be
entirely out of diapers to play there.

Thanks everyone. We feel pretty srongly that this is the right time, Alex
seems ready and he is also in fulltime daycare and has just been moved to
the classroom where they work on potty training, so it doesn't really make
sense for us to wait longer. I Know there's lots of opinions on when is the
right time so I'm not going to get in to all that. He's very verbal for his
age which does help and it is a learning process for sure. Just one of those
things about parenting that's extra challenging, in my opinion, anyway.

Hi everyone,
We have just started potty training our 27 month old son and we are
using the method described in the ebook "oh crap potty training."
Basically this method advocates letting the child be naked for a
while while you teach them to go to the potty and then move on to
pants but no underwear. One of the big concepts that they stress is
looking for signals that they need to go so you can prompt them to
get on the potty. I'm finding this very challenging since it is
mostly a visual thing and mostly subtle. My husband has picked up on
a few things since he is sighted but when I am alone with Alex, I am
finding that I only know he's had an accident after he goes.
Sometimes my husband can catch it right before it happens and rush
him to the potty but I never can. Does anyone have any techniques for
figuring out these signals in a non visual way?

I've heard great things about the Dyson and I'd suggest that one if you can
afford it. I've heard the Roomba is nice but lacks in suction. I have a
Shark Navigator and it does a great job as far as picking things up and
maneuverability, but it's frustrating to clean the filters and gross to
clean-out the tank.

Well, yes and no. We used to have a Eureka vacuum and honestly, it
had this stupid bag and I accidently sucked up a tiny sock and it went
right up into the motor and melted the belt and it all over heated and

Dyson, especially if you have small children floating around. The dyson
will pick up all that stuff our little ones bring in from who knows where
but if it accidently sucks up a sock or a certain toy, it goes directly
into
the canister, no where near the motor or belt. The roomba I hear is
frightening to children as it just goes here and there without supervision.
