Hello California Association of Blind students,

The past several months I have been working in the background for CABS. However, now that Deepa is preparing to leave for law school Thursday, she has, in the best interest of CABS, given me the presidential responsibilities. I want to sincerely thank Deepa for her hard work and dedication these past two years as president. I will expand upon what she has contributed during the presidential report at the convention. Here I will say, however, that under her administration, she has built the infrastructure of CABS to a point that will allow the next administration to do the external work we all desire from a state-wide student organization.

If you are interested in blind student strategies, you wont want to miss our convention meeting. It will be on Friday October 23rd from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Registration will start at 2:30.

The Louis Braille coin is on sale now! If any CABS' members are interested in purchasing a coin or a few coins, you may contact me at bjsexton at comcast.net . We can place your order through the NFB of California and you will enjoy free shipping. It is a neat thing to collect and the proceeds go directly to the literacy of your friends, family, colleagues and future generations of children who are blind and who qualify for the new NFB Braille literacy programs. In December the mint will melt all excess coins and they will never mint them again.

You have only until the end of convention to order your coin through the NFBC to enjoy your free shipping. So, if you believe in the Braille literacy of blind children, I encourage you to purchase your Louis Braille coin now. They will make great gifts for the upcoming holidays! If you wish to buy one at convention, all checks and money orders can be made out to the NFBC with Louis Braille Coin in the memo. Just bring your check cash or money order to the convention, but remember to let me or Mary Willows know how many you will purchase, so that we know how many to order!

If you have any questions for me about the coins, and why I think Braille literacy is so important, please call or write any time!

Also, please pre-register for the convention. You will save by doing so. You can easily pre-register at: www.nfbcal.org under current events / convention or you can try:

Thanks and I look forward to seeing everyone at the convention!
