Status: non-exempt, full-time
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Assistive/Adaptive Technology Director, THE
Computer and Assistive Technology Instructor IS EXPECTED TO educate in
Computer and Assistive Technology. The purpose of the position is to Keep
up-to-date with the programs, all new developing technologies, and
innovative teaching techniques. supports the Assistive/Adaptive Technology
Director with the Computer Technology Lab, and Computer Instructors. Works
collaboratively with the Computer and Assistive/Adaptive Technology Program
services; with Consumers and all other Center programs and staff.
Participates in all programs as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teach classes using appropriate curricula geared towards
Consumers' individual learning styles and abilities.
2. Assists with the development of structured curricula for
adaptive technologies and computer skills.
3. Develop structured curricula for adaptive technologies and
computer skills.
4. Perform assessments of Consumers' computer and assistive/adaptive
technology skills.
5. Remain current on new and developing technologies and
innovative teaching techniques.
6. Provide technical support for instructional staff and
Consumers in the Technology Lab.
7. Assists with maintenance of lab facility.
8. Assists with the maintenance of program policies and
procedures in accordance with DOR and Title VII
certification and/or accreditation standards.
9. Install, configure, and troubleshoot software in conjunction
with the Center AS/AT Specialist and IT provider.
10. Train computer staff on assistive technologies.
11. Conduct/participate in seminars, workshops, and
technology trainings for a variety of public audiences.
12. Participate in Quality Assurance by submitting reports as
required to analyze Consumer progress and effectiveness.
13. Participate in Consumer meetings with DOR and Title VII
Managers and counselors as required.
14. Other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
. Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technology, or equivalent
experience
. Knowledge of current principles of instruction in adaptive technology and
the education of adults with visual impairments.
. Expertise in the following adaptive/assistive technology: Jaws, Magic,
Openbook, Window Eyes, Zoomtext, Mobile Speak/Mobile Magnifier, Talks/Zooms,
and Voiceover; ability to work
with tutorials and technical manuals.
. The following hardware and software proficiency is absolutely required:
PCs, scanners, printers, CCTVs, Windows Operating Systems 98, ME,
2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and Express,
and Internet
Explorer. Mac operating system Snow Leopard. Note-takers: various models
from Humanware, GW Micro, Freedom Scientific.
