Greetings Blind Students-
While the act of being in school and studying hard are impressive in
themselves, true success stems from your taking charge of every part of your
education. We need to be academically independent just as much as we need to
be socially and emotionally independent. Ultimately, we must be behind the
wheel of our education.
How do we master academic independence? We need to know how to manage our
professors, our Disabled Student Services offices, our readers, our
assistants, and every aspect of our education. It is our job as college
students to ensure our success by being proactive and taking charge. Nobody
will do it for us. We must be our own supporters, our own motivators, and
our own cheer leaders.
The California Association of Blind Students is excited to offer our
hopefully valuable insight on obtaining your academic independence and
driving down the road to academic success. Join us for a membership call
where long-time division member Hoby Wedler will lead us through what has
worked for him throughout his undergraduate and graduate tenure as an
aspiring chemist. His presentation will be followed by informative
discussion, anecdotes about academic independence, etc. This meeting will
take place on September 20, 2015 at 5 PM? On the following conference line:
Call-in number: (712) 432-0385
Access code: 958093.
We hope to see you there!
Yours sincerely,
The Membership Committee of the California Association of Blind Students
