Hi everyone,

Vista Center is ramping up to host the 2022 Northern California Braille
Challenge and we'd love your students, families and we need volunteers to
make it a successful event.

Besides proctors and scorekeepers, we'll need guides, lunch/parking crew,
registration and so much more. If you're interested in volunteering or
attending, please e-mail my work address ajine at vistacenter.org or use the
registration link to receive the registration form to sign up.

I'm also going to attach our accessible flyers. Please spread the word to
anyone who may be interested.

Students, it is time to show off your braille skills! Vista Center for the
Blind and Visually Impaired <http://vistacenter.org/> is excited to host
the 2022 Northern California Regional Braille Challenge!

Braille Challenge <https://brailleinstitute.org/braille-challenge/> is the
only academic competition of its kind, allowing students with vision loss
to show off their fabulous braille reading, writing, and editing skills!
Braille Challenge motivates students to hone their literacy skills through
friendly competition and games, generates a foundation for academic and
employment success, and curates friendship and camaraderie within the
Northern California community.

Students, Are you up for the Challenge? Register Here
<https://vistacenter.org/event/2022-northern-regional-braille-challenge/>

Any student grades 1st - 12th who has vision loss and can read and write
braille is eligible to participate in the Braille Challenge. Contestants
are divided into five categories and tested on fundamental braille skills
such as reading comprehension, spelling, speed and accuracy, proofreading,
and charts and graphs. There are 5 age groups including Apprentice 1 - 2
grades, Freshman 3 - 4 grades, Sophomore 5 - 6 grades, Junior Varsity 7 -9
grades, and Varsity 10 - 12 grades.

Partnering with California School for the Blind
<https://www.csb-cde.ca.gov/> and San Francisco Lighthouse for the Blind
<https://lighthouse-sf.org/>, the 2022 Northern California Regional Braille
Challenge will be a chance to reunite and celebrate your braille
accomplishments! Parent and student workshops will include student panels,
adult mentors, guest speakers and a chance to come together as a community.
You won’t want to miss this fun-filled day with workshops, guest speakers,
competition, and awards!
