Hello, everyone. I know I haven't posted to this list a lot, but I actively read it. I thought about joining CABS at State Convention, but I'm not yet a student, so I wasn't sure if I should. I am planning to become a student again soon, which is why I'm writing. I have some questions that I'm hoping some of you can help answer. Feel free to respond to me off-list as well as on. I will include my email address at the end of this message, and I apologize in advance for its length.
I already have my Bachelor's degree in counseling. Now I want to go back for my Master's. However, I'm debating between going back for my Master's in mental health counseling, which is what my bachelor's was focused on, or rehab counseling, focusing on working with the blind. I am passionate about both things. Mental health has been my interest for years, but I've also been told by many in the NFB that my greatest chance of employment lies in the rehab field.
If I get my degree in mental health counseling, the school I am primarily looking at is Colorado Christian University. I know they've had blind students in the past, and I believe Elisha Wells currently attends CCU. Do any of you have experiences with CCU that you could share with me, as far as how they treat blind students? Or, might any of you have recommendations of other schools with good counseling programs?
If I got my Master's in rehab, the only program in the state that I'm currently aware of is University of Northern Colorado. Based on what I heard several weeks ago at State Convention, though, that is not a very good program. If I remember correctly, blind students have also gone there, and Marty Rahn possibly still is. Again, what can any of you tell me about UNC and it's rehab program?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me. If you would like to write me off list, my email address is:
