Any of you planning to attend National Convention who have the desire to assist
families as an Advocate for IEP's should plan to attend this. Also if you are
the parent of a blind child or child with any disability this could be quite
useful knowledge!

The following message is from Carol Castellano, Director of Programs for the
National Organization of Blind Children:
Do you find yourself receiving more requests each year for an NFB member to
attend IEP meetings as an advocate? Do you wish you had more information on
how to advocate effectively? Here is your opportunity! As part of our NFB
education initiative, we are pleased to offer an IEP advocacy training
workshop for volunteer advocates at the convention this year. We hope you
will identify a member of your affiliate to attend or come yourself to
receive some invaluable advice. Here are the details:
IEP TRAINING FOR NFB VOLUNTEER ADVOCATES Thursday, July 7
7:00 - 9:00 pm
Suwannee 18, Level 2
Attorneys Sharon Krevor-Weisbaum and Carlton Anne Cook Walker will provide
an overview of the IEP legal framework, discuss how to deal with typical
issues, and offer advice and tips for being an effective NFB volunteer
advocate at IEP meetings for families with blind children.
Hope to see you there!
Carol
