November 3 through 7, ReelAbilities Columbus Film Festival, in cooperation with VSA Ohio and Accessible Arts of Central Ohio, will showcase and audio describe 9 films involving people with disabilities at 5 different locations in Columbus.




Tickets can be purchased at the door. SPECIAL Promotion - mention ACCESSIBLE ARTS of Central Ohio and you can buy 1 ticket at $7, get 1 free! Otherwise, tickets cost $10 per person. Discounted Tickets are $7 for students, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.

6:00 pm - Warrior Champions (USA Documentary, 80 minutes)



Synopsis:

Four Iraq War veterans turn the nightmares of war into Olympic dreams. After losing limbs and suffering paralysis fighting for their country in Iraq, they have set out to do what many thought impossible... but will they make the cut?

1: 12:00 noon - Shameless: The Art of Disability (Canadian Documentary, 76 minutes)



Synopsis:

Director Bonnie Klein gathers a motley crew of artists with diverse disabilities for a pajama party. A comedian, poet, dancer, and others take a subversive look at Hollywood stereotypes of people with disabilities. Together embark on a mission to create their own images of disability.



2: 7:00 pm - Ben X (Belgian Drama in Flemish with subtitles, 93 minutes)



Synopsis:

Ben lives in a universe unto itself. He hides from his harsh reality of school, being bullied, and awkward social interactions by escaping into his favorite online computer game, Archlord, where he is safe, strong, and in control of his surroundings. In this remarkable drama, Ben devises a plan to leave reality and become the hero he dreams of being

1: Among the Giants (USA Documentary, 23 minutes)



Synopsis:

The Adaptive Design Association, a nonprofit organization located in New York City, builds customized equipment for kids and adults with disabilities, mainly using cardboard. The film portrays the organization's mission through the compelling stories of two fascinating individuals, causing viewers to question what it means to solve problems, be creative, and impact the community.



2: Crooked Beauty (USA Documentary, 30 minutes)



Synopsis:

A visually stunning account of artist-activist Jacks Ashley McNamara's transformative journey from troubled childhood to psych ward patient to pioneering mental health advocate. This poetic tale reshapes mental health stigmas while re-approaching madness as a tool for creativity, inspiration, and hope.





Tuesday, November 6 (2 Films)

1: 10:30 am - White Balance (Israeli Documentary in Hebrew with subtitles, 45 minutes)



Synopsis:

Twelve-year-old Itamar has a deep passion for ice skating, but he is slowly losing his hearing and balance, forcing him away from his dream. He refuses to accept his doctor's orders and his parents' wish that he stay away from the ice rink. Natalie, his new partner, a wild and disobedient girl, decides to help him. Together they grow within a complicated world of adolescence.



2: 7:00 pm - My Spectacular Theater (Chinese Drama in Chinese with subtitles and English dubbing, 120 minutes)



Synopsis:

Chen Yu, a hawker of pirated DVDs, finds refuge and employment in a Beijing movie theater for the blind. As his relationship to the blind community deepens, he finds love, acceptance, and heartbreak in this beautifully-shot ode to the power of cinema.

1: 12:00 noon - Praying with Lior (USA Documentary, 87 minutes)



Synopsis:

Lior has Down syndrome, and has spent his entire life praying with utter abandon. As his Bar Mitzvah approaches, different characters provide a window into life spent "praying with Lior." The movie poses difficult questions such as what is "disability" and who really talks to God?



2: 7:00 pm - Special People (UK Comedy, 80 minutes)



Synopsis:

Enlisted to teach a class of teenagers in wheelchairs about filmmaking, the neurotic Jasper is met with a snappy attitude from the streetwise adolescents. This witty comedy questions condescending outreach projects, self-defeating attitudes, and the vacuity of the film business- all with a healthy helping of self-parody
