Patti Chang is the best guide on status and tax id numbers.  There are some differences from state to state in their handling of this.

Does this mean my chapter should apply for our own 501 C3 nonprofit status? Our affiliate went through this a few years back, and chapter’s and state division’s were told we could just use the affiliate’s status.

Check your Affiliate President. The National Harbor Chapter uses the number provided by our state. The letter is just updated to fit the activity.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this list so sorry if this question has already been asked. I am the vice-president of the National Federation of the Blind Community Service Division among other offices I hold in the
Columbia chapter and the state of Missouri. What I am wanting to
know is how do divisions handle when they don't have a 501(C3) letter when it comes to fundraising. Are their fundraisers that can be done that don't require the division to have a 501(C3) letter?
