In honor of National Volunteer Month* and Global Youth Service Day (April 20-22)**, the Community Service Group is looking for stories to feature on its blog at nfbcommunityservice.wordpress.com. This month the themes are fairly open, so hopefully there is something for everyone. You are welcome to write on one or both. 1. Tell us about what led you to serve and why you continue to serve. Why did you first get involved in community service? What was the first project you did? What keeps you involved? 2. Tell us about service projects you were involved in as a youth. What did you do? What did you learn from the experience? You can start sending in your stories immediately. Stories should be no more than 500 words. Stories should be submitted by April 25 to ensure inclusion in the blog during the month of April, but this is a month-long event. In keeping with the theme, we want to feature stories throughout the month, so feel free to send them in any time between now and the 25th. Send stories as an attachment or in the body of a message to nfbcsblog at gmail.com. Be sure to include your name, state, and a title with each submission. I look forward to reading about your experiences. *More information on National Volunteer Month, begun by President Nixon in 1974, can be found at http://www.uwchatt.org/www/docs/1241/national-volunteer-week-with-united-way--s-volunteer-center. **More information on Global Youth Service Day can be found at http://gysd.org/. Telephone Interview required. If accepted, mentors will be paid minimum wage ($7.25 per hour for a total of 80 hours-- week-day, evenings, and some weekend hours) and room and board for two weeks. Specific schedules determined upon hire. Final notification of acceptance during the week of May 14-18 by telephone/email with written acceptance to follow.
