[Cccnfbw] A Germ of an Idea

Mike,

What I find either fascinating or discourageing, is that, I've been in this
organization 40 years. Your comments about "braking out of the mold" could
have been made and was made when I joined and it is still an accurate
depiction of peoples attitude today. One might ask "What has changed over
all these years from the Federation, when it comes to societies attitude ?"
I think Don's comments are 'right on'.
Legislation can make an attempt at a level playing field for the blind.
But, it is up to each one of us to shape, change or modify attitudes of
individuals. That is why, I believe, it is as important as possible, as many
blind people have the Federation philosophy.

Bob

Don:

I agree about musicians; being o" is not a bad thing. I was thinking more in
terms that many hams regard blind persons as miraculous persons, wondrously
gifted in music, who have overcome overwhelming odds to be, well, normal,
that is, we wouldn't be regarded as extraordinary were we sighted. I
sometimes get the impression that we are regarded almost more as mascots
than as real, flesh-and-blood human beings. As fantastic a musician as he
was, I think Sparky fell into that category in the eyes of many. All I mean
to say is that we must break out of that role.

Mike
