Subject: REMINDER: Fare changes take effect this Saturday, 9/1

This Saturday, September 1, you'll notice some big changes to the fare system. Here’s what you need to know:

What’s changing:

    • Fare zones are going away. We’ll continue to accept All-Zone tickets after September 1, but if you want to use 1-Zone and 2-Zone tickets you’ll need to pay an additional upgrade charge. Learn more about upgrades
    • Prices will go up for many riders, and the Free Rail Zone is going away. Not good news, but necessary to preserve essential service. See new prices
    • Day passes will cost the same as two tickets. This is a great value for both round trips and all-day travel. Learn more about day passes

In case you've heard rumors, we're not changing to "one-way" fares, nor is the bus transfer policy changing at this time.

If you use 1-Zone or 2-Zone fares…

    • Before September 1: If you don't expect to use up your 1-Zone or 2-Zone tickets before Saturday, upgrade them to All-Zone at the TriMet Ticket Office at Pioneer Courthouse Square. It costs 35 cents to upgrade a 1-Zone ticket and 30 cents to upgrade a 2-Zone ticket.
    • September 1: Through December 31, you can upgrade your 1-Zone and 2-Zone tickets on the bus as well as at the Ticket Office, but it will cost 40 cents (for both 1-Zone and 2-Zone tickets).

If you use All-Zone fares…

    • Don't worry! We'll continue to accept All-Zone tickets on buses and trains after September 1.
