Hi Julie, I have tried to submit the formfor comment since I am indeed in favor but it will not allow me saying that my e mail address is not valid. WA State is trying to inact rent control. They are trying to find out how many people are pro and con from each district. I would appreciate it if you would fill out the form and mark PRO. SB 5222 Summary
7% cap on rent increases
Requirement for housing providers to provide a 180-day notice for any increases of 3%,
Limitation on late fees to 1.5% of the rent.
It would empower local governments to establish and enforce their own regulations related to these matters
Prohibits housing providers from offering preferential terms for longer lease agreement
Limits the combined total of move-in and security deposits to one month's rent.
The legislation also extends to vacation rentals, while exempting non-profits and government-run entities
Housing providers would be held responsible for covering attorney fees if a tenant successfully files a claim for any violation of these laws
An exemption for properties within the first 10 years of their certificate of occupancy
