I saw this article and thought we all have stories about our blindness, and
I thought this would be a great tool to help reach out to the community
about blindness.

Everybody Has a Story: Share your true tale with us
The Columbian wants your stories, readers.

It’s a little early to declare that spring has sprung, but it’s never too
early to tell your neighbors a story.

“Everybody Has a Story” is the weekly column — that’s what we try for,
anyway — where Columbian readers share their own true stories.

What sorts of stories? Nearly anything fits the bill, whether silly or
serious, ages ago or just this morning. In recent months we’ve rattled cans
at hungry bears along the Appalachian Trail; taken the wrong Eurorail train
across Germany; and even sat in on drums (with makeshift drumsticks) with a
band at the Fargher Lake Tavern.

If you haven’t shared a true tale with us yet, what’s stopping you? Just
remember the following guidelines:

Your story must be true, and something that happened to you.
It must be no longer than 1,000 words. Shorter is better. No epics here.
Is it one solid story, with a logical beginning and a satisfying ending?
(“Once upon a time, this happened and then this happened, and it all ended
like this.”)
Focus on your personal experience. What were you seeing, hearing, thinking,
feeling?
Expect a little kindly editing.

Send your stories to neighbors at columbian.com or P.O. Box 180, Vancouver, WA
98666. Call “Everybody Has a Story” editor Scott Hewitt at 360-735-4525
with any questions.
