The NFB of Washington and supporters will hold a Legislative action day this Friday, January 23, in Olympia and you are invited. We will be covering three topics. They are:
</div>

1. SB 6035, A bill that will allow for electronic ballot return by disabled and some other identified groups of voters.
</div>
<div class="default-style">
2. The need for full funding of the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library (WTBBL).
</div>
<div class="default-style">
3. Restoring funding to the Independent Living Older Blind program
</div>
<div class="default-style">
These are all very important issues to blind and low vision Washingtonians and to our supporters.

We have some great volunteers from the Friends of WTBBL group who have offered to be our drivers for those living in King and Pierce County. People who want to go should plan on leaving between 8 AM and 8:30 AM this Friday and returning home around 3 PM to 4 PM that day.

<div class="default-style">
We need to hold a planning meeting to discuss the issues and logistics for this Friday. That Zoom meeting will be held tomorrow night, January 20, at 7 PM Pacific. The Zoom information is included below. For those who want to participate in the legislative action day but who cannot attend the meeting tomorrow night we will make a recording or a meeting summary available.

Kristin Geary will be coordinating logistics after tomorrow night and will be going to Olympia on Friday. At the meeting tomorrow night we will talk about central pick up points for those coming from King and Pierce counties and we will connect all passengers and drivers through contact information. I know that some of our Clark County Chapter members are also planning to be there on Friday.

We will post fact sheets to our lists and send them to everyone who is going. We will also have enough copies for everyone on Friday morning.

If you attended the Greater Seattle Chapter meeting and expressed an interest in going you are already on the list. Tomorrow we will find out who else wants to go.

Participating in our Legislative action day will require a fair amount of walking so wear comfortable shoes but also remember that these are business meetings with our legislators so please dress appropriately for that.

It\u2019s important for us to show up in person so the legislators understand what these programs mean to us. If, however, you cannot attend on Friday you can still help spread the message. We want to have a concentrated day of action on Friday. Those who are not attending can contact their legislators on Friday and let them know about these important issues. You can send messages to your legislators by calling the Legislative Hotline 800-562-6000. You can dictate a short message and the people who answer this phone line will send it to your representatives.

Unfortunately I will not be attending the event this Friday. I will be flying to Baltimore that day for some meetings with our leaders and then going on to Washington DC for the annual National Federation of the Blind Washington Seminar. I and the other NFB of Washington members attending that event will be carrying the message about our important national priorities to our Washington congressional delegation. I know that Kristin and others coordinating this Friday\u2019s event will do a great job and I\u2019ll be eager to hear how it goes.
