Hi all,
Cane tips for the NFB straight canes are $2. There are a few type of cane
tips so it depends on the kind you aare looking for. My stay down here at
LCB I have gone through 4 cane tips in just under three months. I have been
told a good cane traveler with go through a cane tip every two weeks. And
every six monthsyou can call or go online to the NFB web site and get a new
NFB straight cane. Which reminds me I need to think about upgrading to a 67
inch cane.

Miss talking with you all. Have a good first meeting of the fiscal year.
Warm regards,
Graham Mehl

Brenda,
The correct number for NFB is (410) 659-9314. We don't use the Johnson
Street address any more. The address to use is 200 East Wells Street,
Baltimore.

I will check on the price of cane tips and send it out. Good question Joe.

Joe,

If you prefer a Federation cane, then all you have to do is call the
National Center for the Blind at (410) 659-9317, ask for Aids and
Appliances, and order your cane and however many tips you want. That's
where I get my canes. I've never used any cane from any other company for
the last 30 years or so. That center is probably in our original building,
and I think the address is
1800 Johnson Street, Baltimore, MD. It's either 1800 or 1700; I don't
remember. At one time, NFB used the top floor and rented out spaces to
companies on the other floors. No doubt NFB now owns that building
outright, just as we probably own the Jernigan Institute. That's relatively
new. We opened the first an older building sometime in 1981, I believe. At
least that's the first time I went through it with part of the NFB National
Convention that was held in Baltimore in 1981. I joined NFB at that
convention.

Hasn't our chapter ever gone on a tour of the center since you were a member
to see all the aids and appliances? There are numerous things that blind
people can purchase there, everything from braille writers, to clocks,
kitchen aids, timers, watches, canes, and much more. There used to be a
catalogue that one could get with all the items listed, and there was a
braille version as well. Perhaps the chapter should check on these things,
have a tour, and perhaps have a chance to purchase some needed aids and
appliances and canes. Winter is coming, and a cane in good condition is
best for finding the ice before you do.
There is my suggestion. Sharon could probably arrange a Saturday tour. Our
chapter has enough members to make opening the center for us worthwhile;
after all, it's our center.

P.S. On NFB's web page, there used to be an offer for a free
white cane amid all the other information and publications.
