[Cinci-nfb] Changing Chapter meeting day and time?

Hi all,
I do not see how this conversation is not appropriate for this list. It is
discussing things about the chapter that may be beneficial to all. It was
just a suggestion from Sheri and she wanted to know how others felt. No one
was intending to vote on this over email. I think It's good to get an idea
of people's thoughts on this before our chapter meeting. That's just my
opinion, and you know what they say about opinions... LOL

Hello all,
Well, as some of you know, I was out of town Thursday through Sunday, so was
a bit unsettled by this onslaught of messages in this thread.
This is not really an appropriate topic for the email lst.
I will put it on the agenda for the november 24 meeting, so we can talk
about it face to face, and figure out what we want to do.
Regarding Washington Platform, let me just say that I made a commitment at
the last meeting to talk to the management about the chaos, and will
definitely do that.
In the beginning, the plan in going to a restaurant was for all members to
eat either *before* or *after* the meeting.
That plan completely fell apart.
Personally, I have no preference regarding week night or weekend meetings.
We went with a week night when we dd because so many members, some of the
same ones now pushing for a weekend, felt that people woul see it as a more
professional gathering if it occurred on a week night after work.
Again, I have no personal preference.
What I do have a preference for is members bringing up topics for meeting
discussions in a way that will not lead to chaos or confusion. I also have
a preference for our sharing a meal before or after a meeting because it
builds fellowship.
Let's all give it some thought and see how creative we can be.
Remember that not all members are on the email list and that this is not a
forum for voting for anything, but rather, for conversations about
blindness, our chapter, and anything else on our minds relevant to either of
those topics.
Oh, yes, one more personal preference. The library was our meeting place
long ago and we abandoned that venue, in part, because the rooms were always
difficult for totally blind people to find and the library was not
particularly welcoming to us.
While Washington Platform is getting too loud for sure, it does have the
advantage of being a piece of cake to find the room!
So, again, let's talk about it November 24 and try to find a creative
solution that will fit everyone's needs.
Peace,
Deborah

Hi all,

I'd be in favor of moving to a weekend time, but as I have a different
situation I'm just saying this in case this is more like an informal vote.
I'm only one person, so if it doesn't work out then I'll just keep involved
as I am.

However, I am very interested in the weekend time because I could be more
involved in the chapter that way. I've been trying (and failing) to become
a duel member of the Cincinnati and Miami Valley chapters for some time now,
and started trying to join the MV chapter before I even gave Emily my dues.
They don't keep a consistent meeting location, and I used to work on
Saturday afternoons when they held their meetings, so it has been difficult.
I would be able to come home to Cincinnati one weekend a month though, and
although I might not be able to make every meeting I could make more than
what I'm able to come to now. So, those are my reasons. Please do keep me
informed if the time does change, as I'm sure you will via the list.

Also, if we're casting informal votes, I'll pass on judgement for the
meeting location. I've only been to Washington Platform once, but I agree
that it would be nice to be able to order food at a separate time from the
meeting. I know I was both a shusher and a shushee at the last meeting I
attended, just because it was hard for everyone to pay their bills, ask for
this or that, and still have the meeting go on for other chapter members. I
also personally was distracted by the background noise from other parts of
the restaurant sometimes, but that could just be me.
