Subject: [Cinci-nfb] Summary of membership committee meeting Tuesday
November 10 2015 at 7:00 PM

The following is a summary of our Membership Committee meeting held Tuesday
November 10 at 7:00 PM by phone conference. In attendance were: Deborah
Kendrick, Lisa Hall, Dale Barta, Paul Dressell, Jessie McDaniel and
Christopher Sabine. Also in attendance was Nickie Pearl, who handles all
social media presence for the NFB of Greater Louisville and the NFB OF
Kentucky.

Christopher scheduled the meeting to discuss all aspects of the new Facebook
page, including content, administration and set up. NFBGL was contacted
specifically because of the high quality of the chapter's social media
presence. Nicky reported that she is in charge of the NFBGL Chapter Facebook
page, the NFB of Kentucky Facebook page and the Louisville Chapter's Twitter
Feed. The page was created a number of years ago to respond to the rise in
blind and sighted people using social media-particularly Facebook.

Nickie reported that she is responsible for updating the page's newsfeed and
conducting other activities with the page, including fundraisers and sharing
events such as Chapter meetings. She indicated that she does have some
usable vision, though she primarily uses VoiceOver to create posts using the
IPhone app.

The NFB of Greater Louisville also reportedly uses other information media,
including a blog, Twitter feed and a talking information bulletin board
similar to PTP to disseminate chapter information. The State Chapter also
has a listserv.

Christopher, Nickie and Deborah also clarified the difference between a
Facebook page an a group. A page is used to share information by an
organization and is typically run by a few administrators, who post to the
page. On the other hand, a group is a private discussion forum, where
members or the general public can share posts and hold conversations and is
similar to a listserv or message board. It was agreed that-like the Greater
Louisville Chapter-the Cincinnati chapter will have a page. We agreed to
continue using the listserv for private discussions within the group, as the
listserv is more accessible to many of our members.

Deborah and Christopher discussed setting up a mailbox on PTP to share
information about chapter meetings and other events. Deborah agreed to
follow up with Janet Papin at CABVI concerning this.

Various other technical issues were discussed. It was agreed that the page
will have two administrators: a blind Facebook user and a person with
partial or total sight to provide assistance and recommendations with visual
elements of the page, including photos and videos. Christopher agreed to
introduce a motion at our next Chapter meeting on Saturday November 14.

Jessie McDaniel expressed concerns that posts from visitors were moved to
the left column of the page-away from the pages timeline. Christopher agreed
to look into this and discuss with Jessie privately.

Chris
