Meeting Minutes for May 2018

1. The May 2018 meeting of the Cincinnati Chapter of the National
Federation of the Blind of Ohio was convened at approximately 2:01 P.M. on
Saturday May 26 2018 by President Sheri Albers at the Washington Platform
Restaurant in Downtown Cincinnati. In attendance were: Sheri Albers, Deanna
Lewis, Diane Carmony, Cassandra Proud, Christopher Sabine, Emily Pennington,
Lillie Pennington, Kim McEachirn, Lisa Hall, Anthony King, Gloria Robinson,
Paul Dressell, Bernie Dressell, Walter Mitchell and Jean Selvidge. Anthony
King and Gloria Robinson paid membership dues to the Cincinnati Chapter at
today's meeting. Christopher Windham and Julie proud also attended this
month's meeting as guests of the chapter.

2. Lillie Pennington moved to approve the April 2018 chapter minutes as
emailed. Emily Pennington seconded, and the motion passed.

3. Emily Pennington presented this month's Treasurer's Report. Deanna
Lewis moved to approve the Treasurer's Report. Christopher Sabine seconded,
and the motion passed.

4. Sheri Albers expressed that the deadline has passed for members to
apply for financial assistance from the Ohio Affiliate to attend this year's
National Convention in Orlando, Florida-scheduled for July 3-9 2018. Lisa
Hall, Emily Pennington, Lillie Pennington, Sheri Albers and Gloria Robinson
expressed that they will be attending all or part of National Convention.
Sheri and Gloria expressed that Walter Mitchell also plans to attend. Deanna
Lewis made a motion for the Chapter to contribute a $100 stipend to the six
members attending National Convention. Kim McEachirn seconded. All members
except Christopher Sabine voted in favor, and the motion passed. Gloria
Robinson made a motion for the Chapter to allocate $20 to each of the five
national funds: The Sun Fund, The Imagination Fund, the Jernigan Fund, The
Jacobus Tenbroek Fund and the White Cane Fund, plus an additional $20 for
door prizes. Emily Pennington introduced a friendly amendment to Gloria's
motion that $10 be allocated to each fund plus $25 for door prizes-given
that the Chapter treasury is depleted. Emily seconded the amended motion
after discussion, and the motion passed.

5. Christopher Sabine expressed that there is no report from the
Membership Committee at this time.

6. Walter Mitchell gave a report from the Fundraising Committee, which
reportedly met on Thursday May 24 2018. He indicated that the Committee has
scheduled its Italian Dinner on Saturday June 16 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 P.M.
at Clovernook's Procter Center. The dinner will consist of spaghetti or
lasagna, salad, garlic bread, dessert and a drink for $5 with raffle tickets
available for $1. Walter indicated that there will be three raffle prizes at
the dinner: an Instipot, a juicer and an air friar. Raffle participants do
not need to be present to win these items. Gloria Robinson reported that
four volunteers have been recruited, but more are still needed to work the
kitchen. She expressed that President Sheri Albers and Deanna Lewis will be
attending as President and Vice President, with Kim McEachirn in charge of
music. In the discussions that followed Walter and Gloria's report, Emily
Pennington and Jean Selvidge agreed to volunteer in the kitchen. Gloria
expressed that volunteers should arrive at the Procter Center by 9:30 A.M.
and help with clean up afterward. A flier concerning the event was
distributed to Chapter members, which was read aloud by Jean Selvidge.
Gloria reported that she received a call from Steve Ogletree, who has a
Saturday morning show on Greater Cincinnati Radio Reading Services,
regarding an upcoming broadcast. It was agreed that she could discuss the
dinner on his program. Christopher Sabine agreed to promote the event on the
Chapter Facebook page, and Walter agreed to post the flier on the Ohio-Talk
and Cincinnati Chapter email listservs. Promotional signage on Hamilton
Avenue and other locations on the street was also discussed.

7. Sheri Albers expressed that this month's BLT Station at the Flying
Pig Half Marathon was a great success.

8. Sheri Albers reported that the 2018 Ohio Bell Academy has been
cancelled due to lack of volunteer support from the Ohio Affiliate.

9. Sheri Albers indicated that the Affiliate received a request from
Gary Wunder, Editor of The Braille Monitor, to ensure that all Chapter and
Affiliate members are receiving the publication, which is available by
email, in Braille and in electronic format on a thumb drive by mail, through
NFB Newsline and at <http://www.nfb.org> http://www.nfb.org under the link
for Publications.

10. Sheri led a discussion on situations related to Blindness, that may
have been embarrassing or traumatizing events at the time, but we can look
back on and laugh about now. Sheri shared that we all need to have a sense
of humor when it comes to ourselves, and not beat ourselves up for things we
have no control over.

11. Deanna Lewis sold an auction item for this month. Cassandra Proud won
the auction.

12. The Chapter agreed to hold its next meeting on Saturday June 23 2018 at
1:00 P.M. at the Washington Platform Restaurant in Downtown Cincinnati.

13. The May 2018 meeting of the Cincinnati Chapter of the National
Federation of the Blind of Ohio was adjourned at approximately 3:38 P.M. on
Saturday May 26 2018.

Respectfully Submitted,

Christopher Sabine

Secretary
