Meeting Minutes for October 1, 2024


  1.  The October 1, 2024 meeting of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, Cincinnati Chapter was convened by Vice President Dave Perry on October 1, 2024 at approximately 7:10 P.M. by telephone conference. This meeting was originally scheduled for September 28, 2024. Attending this meeting were President Gloria Robinson, Vice President Dave Perry, Emily Pennington, Christopher Sabine, Frank Bragassa, Gary Warren, Chris Windham, Tammy Smith, Paula Collins, Ana Burrage, and Haley Thurston.


  1.  President Gloria Robinson moved to accept the August, 2024 meeting. Emily Pennington seconded. The motion carried.


  1.  Emily Pennington presented this month's Treasurer's Report. Dave Perry moved to accept the Treasurer's Report as presented. Christopher Sabine presented. The motion passed.


  1.  Gary Warren gave an update from the Fundraising Committee. He indicated that he will be selling oils and cookies at the exhibit table at the Ohio Affiliate's 2024 State Convention, which is set for November 14-17 at the Cleveland Double Tree Westlake Hotel in Westlake, Ohio. The cookies will be produced by Buskin Bakery and individually wrapped and have wording on each saying "NFB of Cincinnati." The Chapter will be selling them for $2 apiece. The Chapter will also be selling turtles and has plans to sell popcorn. Dave Perry expressed that the previous fundraiser held in August was a success and stated that the more participation in fundraising efforts, the better. The money raised from fundraising efforts is vital to sending members to State and National Conventions as well as Washington Seminar and requested that all members generate ideas for successful fundraisers.


  1.  President Gloria Robinson gave special recognition to members Dave Perry, Ana Collins, Ana Burrage, and Christopher Sabine's mother, Joan Sabine, for their support during fundraisers. She went on to expressed that a number of items, such as plates, have gone missing during fundraisers. She also expressed concerns about individuals attending events, consuming items, and not paying their dues. She also expressed that members need to help each other with other tasks, such as filling out forms, and "have each other's backs." Dave Perry concurred. President Gloria expressed that few people from the Cincinnati Chapter attended the recent Ohio Affiliate Board meeting, which took place at the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired on Saturday, September 21 except for members of the Chapter Board and new member Jason Revalee.


  1.  President Gloria Robinson indicated that a van will be transporting members to the Ohio Affiliate Convention. The van will leave at 6:00 A.M. at the Frisch's at 1003 Gest Street and arrive at the Hilton Double Tree Westlake at 10:00 AM. The van will depart at Noon on November 17 and arrive by 5:00 P.M. at the Queensgate Frisch's location in Cincinnati (1003 Gest Street). Anyone with door prizes should reach out to President Robinson. The agenda has not been release as of today's meeting.


  1.  Dave Perry gave a membership update. The Chapter has a potential new member. He attended the Chapter Board meeting (which took place prior to the full Chapter meeting this evening) but was unable to attend the full meeting. Dave expressed that he believes he will be an asset to the Chapter. President Gloria Robinson gave an update from the Affiliate Membership Committee meeting. She expressed that significant changes will be taking place regarding the National NFB pledge and other matters related to membership. She continued that the Chapter will be meeting for a celebration of Blind Equality Achievement Month and white Cane Awareness Day Fundraiser at the Bob Evans Restaurant in Western Hills (6318 Glenway Avenue, Cincinnati). The event will take place at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 16. President Robinson has expressed that she will reach out to the office of Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval to invite him to the event for a proclamation. Federation literature will be distributed at the restaurant.


  1.  President Gloria Robinson expressed that she and Dave Perry are planning on donating gift bags for the residents of Bell Home for the Sightless and providing other assistance to the residents. She requested that more Chapter members participate in community outreach efforts.


  1.  The Ohio Affiliate Convention will take place from November 15-17, 2024. The Gavel Report for the Cincinnati Chapter, which highlights the accomplishments of the Chapter and individual members to the Federation Family and overall community, was submitted to the Affiliate by Chapter Vice President Dave Perry. President Robinson expressed her thanks to all members who assisted with the Ohio Affiliate Board Meeting in Cincinnati on September 20: Chris Windham, Jason Revalee, Gary Warren, Ana Burrage, and Chapter Vice President Dave Perry.


  1.  The October 1, 2024 meeting of the National Federation of the blind of Ohio, Cincinnati Chapter was adjourned at approximately 8:02 P.M. on Wednesday, October 1, 2024.
