>>
>> The April 2026 meeting of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, Cincinnati Chapter was convened by President Gloria Robinson at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, by telephone conference. Attending today’s meeting were President Gloria Robinson, Dave Perry, Frank Bragassa, Christopher Sabine, Emily Pennington, Haley Thurston, Paula Collins, and Gary Warren.
>> Emily Pennington presented this months Treasurer’s report. Frank Bragassa moved to accept this month’s Treasurer’s Report. Christopher Sabine seconded, and the motion passed.
>>
>>
>> Dave Perry moved to accept the March 2026 meeting minutes. Emily Pennington seconded, and the motion passed.
>>
>> Dave Perry gave the Fundraising Committee report. He stated that the Chapter is continuing to sell candy bars from World’s Finest Chocolates and is planning the wine tasting for this coming summer, though a specific date has not been finalized. Candy bars are being sold for $2 apiece and $60 for a box of 30. Members interested in selling candy can reach out to President Robinson or another member of the Board of Directors directly. President Robinson also indicated that anyone interested in selling cookie dough should reach out to her in advance so she can order and store it until the Chapter is ready to sell it in September. The Chapter Ball is also set for end of summer. President Robinson indicated that Wiedemann Brewery has committed to a donation. An “Italian” dinner is also in the works for Blind Equality Achievement Month in October.
>>
>> Christopher Sabine gave a brief report from the Transportation Committee. He indicated that Metro is beginning three new routes and is seeking public comments next week. Christopher indicated that the routes would include a revitalized 18 Colerain Avenue route, a 47 Route which will run from the Northside Transit Center to the Oakley Transit Center, and a new 53 bus route connecting Norwood and St. Bernard.
>>
>>
>> At President Robinson’s request, Christopher Sabine and Frank Bragassa gave an overview of the Randolph Sheppard Program / Ohio Business Enterprise Program for Blind vendors and the Ohio Business Enterprise Program Annual Statewide Conference. Frank Bragassa provided an overview of his work as a Blind vendor in the Ohio Business Enterprise Program, the Ohio Vendors Representatives Committee, eligibility and training, and the selection process.
>>
>> President Gloria Robinson gave an update from the Community Outreach Committee. She expressed that she and Dave Perry will be asked to give a report to the Chapter on how they communicated about the Blind, either by participating in fundraising campaigns, passing out literature, or other activities. This must be a group activity of some type involving multiple Committee members.
>>
>> President Gloria Robinson discussed services to Blind patrons at restaurants and other community locations, relating a positive experience she had eating at a Golden Corral. Christopher Sabine and Dave Perry discussed holding an event at the Frisch’s location on Vine Street in Hartwell (discussed at the previous meeting) to educate the community regarding how the Blind can eat at restaurants and participate in the community. Various other ideas were discussed, including contacting media outlets such as Local 12 and Fox 19. Gloria emphasized that Blind patrons could be able to eat from buffets and be accepted by staff and others at restaurants. Dave Perry and Gary Warren expressed agreement, with Gloria articulating that Cincinnati should be at the forefront of advocating for improved access to buffets in particular.
>>
>>
>> Frank Bragassa shared some concerns regarding a member of the community who is losing her sight and independence. Specific services were discussed and resources shared by Chapter members. Other personal concerns were discussed by Chapter members.
>>
>> President Gloria Robinson led a discussion with the Chapter on concerns over safety and security in the community with specific incidents discussed. The purpose of this conversation was to educate members on potential safety concerns and strategies to resolve situations where safety is placed at risk, particularly in hospitals. President Robinson also expressed that the community needs to support members of the Blind community in Greater Cincinnati with health care and community safety, particularly the newly-Blind and those without family.
>>
>> President Robinson indicated that the May Chapter meeting may need to be rescheduled for another date due to a statewide leadership conference in the Affiliate set for the weekend of May 29 to 31.
>>
>>
>> The April 2026 meeting of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, Cincinnati Chapter was adjourned at approximately 5:30 P.M. on Sunday April 26, 2026.
