Committee. He reported that the committee opted not to meet formally in August
to focus on making contacts for community outreach efforts. An outreach
presentation is scheduled for October 18 at Assumption Parish Mt. Healthy.
Deborah Kendrick and Lisa Hall have expressed interest in participating in
this event. Christopher reported that David Perry has also expressed interest
in organizing an outreach event but needs support from the Committee to
arrange this. Christopher will also be helping Dale Barta reach out to his
contacts at the Vineyard Church in Springdale. Walter Mitchell and Lisa hall
are also reaching out to their contacts. Christopher encouraged anyone with
contacts at community organizations interested in the Chapter’s efforts to
email him or post to the Chapter Listserv. Ideally, the Chapter would like to
hold such events every 3-6 months. Sheri Albers asked if the Committee has a
written presentation that could be disseminated to other community
organizations. Christopher reported that such a presentation has not been
written up yet, as he believes Deborah Kendrick needs to be involved in
drafting it. Lisa indicated that she will order literature from the National
Office to present at the Outreach Event at Assumption Parish on October 18.
Christopher also expressed that he plans to have Braille literature from the
St. Xavier Society for the Blind available to show those attending the event
that such materials are available in Braille. Christopher reported that the
Facebook Page currently has 98 likes and is still being updated
regularly—encouraging all Chapter members with material to share to reach out
to him directly. Finally, Christopher agreed to present an updated Membership
list to Lisa and Deborah for submission to the Ohio Affiliate for State
Convention in October.

at the request of Annie McEachirn Carson, who was absent from this month’s
meeting. The Committee reportedly met by telephone conference on August 10
2017, with Sheri, Walter Mitchell, Judy Rudig and Kim McEachirn attending.
Sheri indicated that the Committee discussed two items which she believed
needed discussion at this month’s meeting:

annual White Cane Walk and “Meet the Blind” month event. The event will begin
on October 2 2017 at 10:30 A.M. As in years past, the event will begin at that
time with a march from City Hall to Fountain Square with a “meet the Blind”
month event following the march. Unlike in past years’ events however, the
Recreation Committee proposed that a fundraiser be held at Fountain Square
during the “meet the blind” month event. The Fundraising Committee discussed
the particulars of this fundraiser in their report later in the meeting. Sheri
reported that she was unable to secure a table at Fountain Square for a later
date closer to National White Cane Safety Day on October 15. She indicated
that she has secured two tables at Fountain Square for the entire day on
October 2. Annie McEachirn Carson has reportedly reached out to
representatives of the Cincinnati Association for the blind and Visually
Impaired and the Clovernook Center—inviting all staff to take part. Sheri
expressed that as a non-profit organization, the Chapter can have the rental
fee waived. The cost of the event will be $15 per table for two tables. Sheri
reserved three chairs for each table at $2 each for a total cost to the
Chapter of $36. Christopher Sabine asked Sheri if Deborah Kendrick was
apprised of this event before today’s meeting. Sheri expressed that she did
not know. Walter Mitchell subsequently made a motion to reinstate the White
Cane Walk and “Meet the Blind” Month event and hold it on October 2 2017,
allocating all necessary funds to do so. Kim McEachirn seconded, and the
motion passed. Christopher Sabine reported that he would vote yes on the
motion with the stipulation that Deborah be apprised and have the opportunity
to participate in the decision making process. Following the vote, Sheri
expressed that she will connect with Annie McEachirn Carson to set the event
in motion and share details on the Chapter Listserv.

<![endif]>Walter introduced the proposal for the “Meet the
Blind” fundraiser on October 2 at Fountain Square, which is being organized
primarily by Kim and Annie McEachirn with assistance from other Committee
members. This event is being held at Fountain Square in conjunction with the
“Meet the Blind” Month event on October 2. The group proposed to sell
specially designed T shirts at the event. Kim McEachirn is reportedly
coordinating the sale with support from Walter Mitchell, Annie McEachirn
Carson and other Committee members. The T shirts will be produced locally and
feature a blue eye with a black dot in the center. Depicted at the top of the
eye from left to right are the words, “Meet the Blind.” Underneath the eye
running horizontally are the words” Mind to Mind.” Kim expressed that the
design is the product of a group of Art students from Chicago who work with a
collaborative of several nonprofit organizations connected to the MCEachirns.
The T shirts will be made to order and produced locally. Some time was spent
on the cost of the T shirts, sale price and potential profit margins. Kim
presented four T shirt brands in order from highest to lowest cost to the
organization and called for a vote on which brand to sell. It was agreed that
the Chapter will purchase 100 Anvil T shirts at a cost of $6.70 per shirt for
small, medium and large sizes (with 2 X and 3 X sizes costing an additional $2
extra). The Chapter agreed to purchase 30 2 X and 3 X T shirts with the
remainder being small, medium, large or extra-large. The manufacturer
reportedly requires 50% of this as a down payment. The Chapter agreed to sell
the T shirts for $15 each at the “Meet the Blind” event and other venues—such
as State Convention. Walter Mitchell moved to proceed with the “meet the
Blind” T shirt project as discussed, allocating all necessary funds. Sheri
Albers seconded, and the motion passed.
