In attendance were: President Sheri Albers, Kim McEachirn, Deanna Lewis, Diane Carmony, Joy Thomas, Christopher Sabine, Paul Dressell, Paul Jordan, Emily Pennington, Gloria Robinson, Walter Mitchel, Dale Barta and Jean Selvidge. Akeelah and Nyla Kade, Angela Maddox, Chris Windham and Kate Radke attended as guests of the Chapter. He indicated that he has made two attempts to schedule telephone conferences on September 11 and September 18 2018, but both meetings had to be cancelled due to lack of attendance. Christopher expressed that he and Sheri Albers met with representatives of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati on August 30 to begin the process of developing strategies to enable Blind parishioners and prospective members of the Catholic Faith in the Archdiocese to access materials and more fully participate in the life of the Church. Much of the discussion revolved around replicating the work of other diocese who have promoted inclusion of Blind parishioners and those with other disabilities—primarily the Diocese of Toledo, which has worked with Federation members in the past. Christopher expressed that dialog with the Archdiocese is ongoing. Christopher also reported on a visit by him, Lisa Hall, Paul and Bernie Dressell and Dale Barta to the home of long time Federationist Marion King, who is unable to attend Chapter meetings for health reasons. Christopher expressed that the meeting went well, but it was agreed after some discussion that the membership needs to visit more often, make regular contact and generally serve as a better support system to Marion. Specific actions were discussed, but Christopher emphasized that the Membership Committee needs to take ownership of these efforts, and this is impossible without regular meetings. Gloria requested that people attend to promote the Federation, specifically focusing on members of the Diabetes Action Network in attendance. Paul Jordan, President of the Ohio Diabetes Action Network, expressed that he will attend this event. Granola bars and World’s Finest Chocolates will be sold at $1 apiece. Walter expressed that all items sold are being donated by Walter Mitchell and Kim McEachirn, so there will be no expense to the Chapter. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='margin-left:1.0in;mso-add-space:auto;line-height:normal'><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='margin-left:1.0in;mso-add-space:auto;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:normal'>c.<span style='font-size:7.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'> </span>Kim McEachirn continued the report by discussing his efforts on his Braille puzzle book project. The Chapter agreed that the books will be produced in Unified English Braille (as opposed to English Braille, American Edition). Kim expressed that he will produce 100 books at a total cost of $50, which he will donate to the Chapter. These books will be ready for sale by State Convention, and it was agreed that the Committee and Chapter will discuss another printing for next year’s National Convention at a later date. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='margin-left:1.0in;mso-add-space:auto;text-indent:-.25in;line-height:normal'>d.<span style='font-size:7.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'> </span>Kim expressed that he needs a decision today on whether to precede with the sale of 50 additional “Meet the Blind” T shirts at the 2018 State Convention and other venues. The total cost of production would be $490 with a potential profit of $565. The T shirts would include long and short sleeve shirts as well as hoodies. Kim McEachirn presented a motion that the Chapter allocate $490 to production of the T shirts, and Gloria Robinson seconded. There was extensive discussion which revolved around whether the market would support additional sales adequately to justify the cost and the need for Chapter members to donate to production costs. During this discussion, several Chapter members agreed to make pledges and donations totaling $160 to offset the production cost to the Treasury. The discussion concluded with Walter Mitchell presenting a friendly amendment to Kim McEachirn’s original motion to deduct the total amount of pledges and donations of $160, for a total cost to the Treasury of $330. Christopher Sabine suggested seeking funds through the Chapter’s Facebook page, expressing that the Louisville Chapter has engaged in similar efforts in the past. Gloria expressed that Affiliate President Richard Payne also conducted some fundraising through the State Affiliate’s Facebook Page. Christopher and Walter Mitchell agreed to discuss this by telephone following today’s meeting. Sheri Albers expressed that all fundraising materials must be approved by Richard Payne, President of the Ohio Affiliate, due to protocols and branding requirements from National Office.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='text-indent:-.25in;line-height:normal'>8.<span style='font-size:7.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'> </span>Sheri Albers reported that the Marrakesh Treaty, which extends international copyright protections for accessible materials for the Blind and allows registered members of national library services for the Blind to access alternative format materials from service providers in other member countries, has been released from the Senate Judiciary Committee and is set for a vote on the House Floor the week of September 24.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='line-height:normal'><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='text-indent:-.25in;line-height:normal'>9.<span style='font-size:7.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'> </span>Sheri Albers reminded all Chapter members that the Gavel Awards, which recognize the accomplishments of chapters, Divisions and individual Federation Members to the Federation and the community at large, are due to the Ohio Affiliate by October 1. She expressed that the Chapter Board met earlier this week to develop the Gavel report for the State Affiliate and asked all members who would like their contributions to the Federation or the community in general recognized in the report to email her following today’s meeting. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='text-indent:-.25in;line-height:normal'>10.<span style='font-size:7.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'> </span>Sheri Albers reminded all Chapter members of the White Cane Awareness Walk / Meet the Blind Event on October 8 2018 at Cincinnati City Hall. She reported that the proclamations are complete and Mayor John Cranley has been invited, though she indicated she has not received a response from his scheduler as of today’s meeting. Representatives of the Clovernook Center and the Cincinnati Association for the blind and Visually Impaired will be participating, and there will also be representatives in Clovernook’s “Count me On” Project in attendance. The event will start at 10:30 A.M. at Cincinnati City Hall, and there will be a march to Fountain Square—as in past years. Sheri expressed that there will be line dancing and other activities at Fountain Square following the march and reading of the proclamation. Walter Mitchell and Gloria Robinson have agreed to set up the event table on fountain Square prior to the start of the event.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='text-indent:-.25in;line-height:normal'>11.<span style='font-size:7.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'> </span>Sheri Albers began a discussion of this year’s State Convention, which is scheduled for November 2-4 at the Holiday Inn Strongsville, Ohio. Sheri indicated that bus transportation to the Convention hotel has been confirmed, and electronic and print Convention Assistance Forms have been sent out to the Ohio-Talk Listserv. Convention assistance forms are due to Ohio Affiliate President Richard Payne by October 11, and a supporting letter from the Chapter President is required for all applicants for Convention Assistance from the Ohio Affiliate. The Board of Directors has agreed to allocate a specific, limited amount for Convention Assistance. First-time Convention attendees will receive priority, with other applications being considered on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. The cost of the hotel is $82 per night plus tax, which includes a breakfast buffet for two plus $5 for an additional person. The deadline for room reservations is October 11, and the deadline for preregistration for Convention is October 26. Ideas for the Auction Item for the State Convention Banquet were discussed, and it was agreed that discussions would continue on the Cincinnati Chapter Listserv.
