Hi all,

Here are the minutes from today's meeting. Let's make this seminar awesome!!!

5-4-14

The meeting was called to order at 1:40 PM. People present were Beth, Daniel, Becky, Shon, Melissa and Marty. The minutes from last month's meeting were approved as posted to the listserv. Treasurer's report indicates that we have $101.35. We bought the folders for the packets for the seminar online from Amazon for $42. Regarding seminar speakers, Shon has called someone from the Colorado ADA Center. He has not heard a^ anything on the cab front. He is hoping that someone from the ADA Center will be able to cover some about transportation. Daniel said that he had left messages with some of the pupy raising groups and Beth has also without success. Beth has also called the alumni person from GDB without a lot of exchange of info. Marion Gwizdola said that they would possibly send someone out or that he could be conferenced in for some remarks at the beginning of the seminar. Regarding the seminar agenda, we have Registration at 9:00 and then intros until 10:00 AM. Guide dogs 101 will then take place until 12:00 PM. At 12:15 PM, we will have a cddple of dog users share their experiences with getting a guide while lunch is served. Lunch is from 12:00-1:00 PM. At 1:00, the Taking care of Your Guide presentation will occur. at 2:00, we have the access rights presentation until 3:45 and then wrap-up with adjournment at 4:00 PM. This is the agenda as it stands now. We then moved to slightly revamping the agenda. Beth stated that we needed to put time in for people to mingle with one another. Melissa said that her idea was to have tables set up around the perimeter of the room so that people could mingle and socialize. Beth suggested moving the guide dog experience stories to the end of the morning session leaving lunch open for mingling. This means that at 9:30, will be registration, 10:00 will be call to order. At 10:20, we will begin our Guide Dogs 101 panoel discussion. This will tentatively take place from 10:20-10:40. We will then have ten minutes for QANDA afterwards until 10:50. The agenda we are makingtoday will serve as an outline since it was decieed that we did not yet have enough of the logistics in place to finalize it. We will meet again on Sunday May 11th at 6:30 PM to finalize agenda details. This gives everyone who needs to contact potential speakers and other participants time to do so over the next week. The list of people and their assigned duties can be found later in these notes. Regarding logistics, on resending the flyer and getting it out to people, we will send it to Julia Zannon via email and Becky will email her VR counselor Roshell. Shon will follow up with Steve Patton about coming to discuss the topic of cane vs dog and will also follow up with Rita from the Co 11ada and find out about who he might be able to contact to get someone from a cab company to our seminar. He will also contact Jenny to see whether or not she has contact Guiding Eyes to get more school info from them for packets. Becky will call Joe Tripolet to follow up on an RTD contact, will ask either Joe or Brent about a contact for housing in the state and will follow up with the campuses where she has already sent flyers about our seminar to see about possible responses we may have gotten. Beth will contact Guide Dogs for the Blind to see about getting representation from them at our seminar and to see if they will send info for packets. She will also go around to some of the local pet stores and see about donations and if they will give us cards and other info that we can use to help advertise for them at our event, and will also follow up with the vet. Melissa will talk with the NAGDU board to determin if they will send any representation to our seminar and also the State Board to see if they will come. Daniel will try to contact puppy raisers in the area as well as his mobile groomer #to see if she would be willing to come to our seminar to talk about grooming and also to see if she would possibly provide some type of service to dogs at the event. He will also begin compiling a resource list of places to get cog supplies, grooming services, food, toys, etc if we can send him information. We are thinking that we will hand out this list at the state convention. For the seminar, we will need a cash box and some cash on hand to make change and regarding registration, Becky and Marty will register people. Penn has all of the gdie bags done. Shwe will ask her if she will help hand these out along with the packets of information from the schools. We will get the seminar agenda in large prt and braille formats once it is finalized. Shon will check into getting the agenda brailled and someone with a printer will help to print out large print agendas. The food committee has procured a pan of chicken alfredo from Romano's Macaroni Grill which will sgve 30 people. Becky will call Pizza Hutt across from the student apartments to see if they would be willing to donate anything. Shon will send her the number tonight. Shon will altalk with Wayne Marshall to see if we can possibly purchase some soda. Daniel will check into purchasing a couple of deserts. We will see if Romanos and Pizza Hutt will throw in plates. If not, Marty and Daniwhl will coordinate to pick up plates napkins and silverware. Regarding door prizes, someone has donated two Avon gift sets, one for men and one for women. We also have a plush animal, some wind chimes and a tote bag from the Seeing Eye. We have decided to rafle off the Avon gift sets. Shon will check into having the students at the center help braille tickets for this purpose. Penn Street has indicated to Melissa that she will also be donating some things. We will meet again on May 18th at 6:30 PM to figure out last minute logistics and how we wish to put door prizes together. Regarding the flyer, we have sent it out to the Colorado listservs. Melissa will contact Jessica about getting our flyer on Newsline, and Marty will check with Joe Goode at AINC to see if the flyer has been anounced there. Melissa will also post an event invite on Facebook about our seminar. Next, we discussed fundraising. Becky contacted the Walmart in Englewood and was told that we couldn't fundraise there. Shon will contact them again and will also contact the Walmart by the student apartments. In order to do Amazon Smile, we need to be registered with a website called Guide Star, so we need to find out if we are under the umbrella of the NFBCO or not. If we are under the state afiliate, we will not use this method of fundraising. Regarding our proposal for seed money from the state, Scott has emailed Melissa and has said that he would review the proposal and would make a decision shortly. Shon stated that he had contacted Chipotle about a possible fundraser and they indicated that they would give us the flyers and other info we would need to advertise it. If we did this fundraiser, we would get 50 percent of the proceeds with the other half going to Chipotle. This fundraiser could be run state wide which would expand the number of people who could participate. Shn then told us about the Blackhawk Cacino srip that the Denver Chapter is doing on June 21st. Tickets are $25 and people can currrently pay by check or with cash. They are also working on a way for people to pay using credit/debbit cards. Tickets can also be purchased the day of the trip. In order to get tickets, call Shaon at the Center. The number is 303-778-1130 and his extension is 246. The meeting was then adjourned at 3:20 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Marty Rahn, Secretary,

Colorado Association of Guide Dog Users
