Subject: [NFB_Colorado_guide_dog_users] Jyly 17th meeting minutes

Hello all,

Here are the minutes from the July 17, 2016 COAGDU meeting.

7-17-16

The meeting was called to order at 6:15 PM. People present were Ellie,
Becky, Melissa G, Melissa F, Shon and Marty. Korinna was excused and
Christopher is absent. We first discussed getting brochures and decals
from NAGDU so that we can put them into the packets for the umpcoming Day
at the Capital and use them for other events. The Treasurer's report
dicates that we currently have $131.69. Shon talked about a coffee shop
owned by a lady who is having some difficulty with some possiby ungroomed
guide dogs coming into her shop. She would like to know what she can do in
order to avoid banning them from the shop. She really wants to work with
them. Christopher joined the calb at 6:35 PM. Ellie asked how we could get
others involved or at least get to ask them what they would like us to
focus on. Melisa G said that it may be worth us having our seminar on
another day at State Convention other than Saturday. Shon proposed
developing a questionnaire in order to see if we could get ideas from
people about what types of topics they might like to see us focus on
during upcoming seminars. He suggested that we have this ready by the end
of August to send out to the Colorado-Talk listserv. Ellie suggested
trying to get different people with different experiences to ppeak which
helps to draw more people in. Melissa F suggested partnering with another
division to bring in food. Marty suggested talking with the Blind
Merchants Division regarding this. Becky asked if we were going to sell
something at state convention. Melissa G explained that the woman who is
willing to work with us on supplying bags will sell us the bags for $9 a
piece and would do any personalization for free. We could sell them for
$15 plus shipping. We discussed having two different options of bag, make
up three of each and then have them to sell at state. A motion was made
for Melissa G to purchase 4 backpacks and 4 totes, 2 of which will and be
exhibited by local COAGDU members at some of the upcoming chapter picnics.
Melissa F made the motion and Shon seconded. It was appooved by the rest
of the board with no objection. We next discchssed Western Welcome Week.
Shon stated that he didt feel that we had time to prepreare anything.
Ellie suggested that if we get brochures from Marion and the NAGDU
division, that we could hand them out or put them out on the Denver
Chapter table dofing the event. Shon will talk to Dan about this. He also
said that he could potentially put some educational brochures at the front
desk of the CCB because they are having tours on a couple of days before
Western Welcome Week festivities begin. We then discused possibly
sending a letter to either the state board or the NAGDU board asking for
fundraising ideas or asking for guidance to keep our division from
folding. Melissa will write a letter and send it to the COAGDU board to
seek opinions, editting suggestions, Etc. After further discussion, it was
decided that we would reach out only to the NAGDU board to see if we could
get some guidance from them. We will communicate on our progress regarding
these things via email and the Facebook Messenger Group. Our next meeting
was schedued for August 7th at 6:00 PM. The meting was then adjourned at
7:35 PM.

Respectfully,
Marty Rahn, Secretary
