I thought this was important enough to send along to this list as well. As a reminder, if you're a member of the Denver chapter, but for whatever reason aren't on the chapter email list, send me an email at nhall at cocenter.org.

Subject: Announcement about Automated Bus Announcement Project Meeting
Regional Transportation District
Our mission:
To meet our constituents' present and future public transit needs by offering safe, clean, reliable, courteous, accessible and cost-effective service throughout the District.
January 28, 2010
Dear Mr. Brent Batron,
Over the next three years, RTD will be replacing its aging Computer Aided Dispatch and Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) system. Because of this project, RTD has an opportunity to add an Automated Stop Announcement (ASA) system to its bus fleet at significantly less cost than if RTD procured such a system separately. The ASA system will include both auditory and visual announcements of major bus stops, transit stations and transfer points, features which have been requested by RTD passengers for many years.
On November 24, 2009, RTD invited members of the disabled community to hear about the proposed ASA system before RTD issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to potential bidders of this project. At the November meeting, RTD offered to provide updates on the project in early 2010. Participants at the meeting requested that future meetings be held after business hours. To that end, please join us on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the RTD offices at 1600 Blake Street to see a presentation on the status of the project. There will be some opportunity for questions and comments after the presentation.
At the November meeting, participants requested to have input into the procurement process. Consequently, RTD will be soliciting ideas on how to choose a limited number of volunteers to be on an ASA Advisory Panel (ASAAP). RTD intends for volunteer representatives to be selected at the end of this meeting. ASAAP volunteers selected must be representative of the diverse interests of the disabled community. Details will be discussed at the meeting and volunteers selected for the ASAAP preferably should be present at the meeting.
While an RSVP is not necessary, RSVPs are preferred. If you are unable to attend, we would be happy to send you a copy of the presentation for your perusal. You may get a copy by contacting Rose Enos at 303-299-2206 or you may write to her at 1600 Blake Street, Denver, Colorado 80202. Comments on the RFP should be sent to either Alice Osner or Martha Hecox at the same address. Comments via email may be sent to: ADA.Coordinator at RTD-Denver.com. We look forward to seeing you on February 17th.
Sincerely,
Martha Hecox
Acting Senior Manager, Contracted Services
Alice Osner
Manager of Bus Operator Training
