[Colorado-talk] ACCESS-A-CAB, CAB DRIVERS DESCRIMINIATING

I have had extensive experience with both cab companies (Yellow and Metro)
since moving to Denver. It's my opinion that a slow cab response on a busy
night is not a discrimination issue. Sometimes, I have had to wait almost
two hours when calling for a normal cab. I don't use Access-a-Cab, but know
people who do and they sometimes felt that the cab service is faster when
using a voucher. This is because the driver actually makes more money on a
short trip using a voucher than he otherwise might with the regular meter.

As far as the wait time, Arielle is correct. This is mostly due to a bad
system in which the two major cab companies, in conjunction with the Public
Utilities Commission, monopolize business, thereby killing competition and
limiting the number of available cabs in various areas of Denver and the
outlying suburbs. I have often wondered what position the NFB has taken on
this issue as it does affect the blind.
