[Colorado-talk] RTD's A Line event

Hello All,
As a precursor to RTD's "The Train to the Plane" event on April 22&23, RTD has scheduled an event to show people with disabilities the new A Line commuter train, a platform, and one of its pedestrian crossings before having to experience it with the general public. This event is being dubbed as a "Disability Safety Day" event and it will take place on Tuesday, April 19. Activities will be:
* 11:30 a.m. (meeting option A) - meet at Union Station to board bus to Central Park Station;
* Noon (meeting option B) - Meet at Central Park Station (8175 E. Smith Road, Denver, 80238);
* 12:30 p.m. - Explore station and pedestrian crossing features;
* 1:30 p.m. - Board bus to Union Station to tour a stationary commuter rail train;
* 2 p.m. - Tour train and Union Station platform and either leave directly from here, or
* 3 p.m. - Board bus back to Central Station Park, if not leaving directly from Union Station.

And best of all we're providing free rides on the entire rail system, so come out and be the first to ride the train to the plane!

Starting April 24, 2016, RTD's new University of Colorado A Line from Union Station to Denver International Airport will open for service. With the implementation of the first commuter rail line in the metro area, this new service will provide improved connections, better travel times, and streamlined bus service that will meet the transit needs of our customers.

Commuter rail is coming April 22

RTD's rail system has consisted entirely of light rail and now a new train is coming to Denver. Commuter rail will make its inaugural run on the new University of Colorado A Line on April 22 and will offer passengers a new transit experience. Commuter rail is heavier and faster than light rail and trains have distinguishing characteristics including level boarding at all doors, larger seats, overhead storage, luggage towers and bicycle racks. Light rail closure April 15 - 18

Due to repair and maintenance of our light rail system, there will be no light rail service on the C, D, E, F, and H lines north of the I-25 & Broadway Station starting Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18, 2016 at 3:00 a.m. For connections to stations north of I-25 & Broadway bus shuttle service will be available. Service on the W line will not be affected. Normal service will resume Monday, April 18 after 3:00 a.m.

National Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22. This annual day is held to recognize the importance of caring for the planet. At RTD, sustainability is our goal, we believe every effort should be made to use clean fuels, recycle, and always look for ways to reduce our impact on the environment. Make a commitment and adopt a few earth-friendly activities that make a difference. Continue using public transportation, reuse bags, replace high energy light bulbs, rethink bottled water and use glass instead, and recycle paper, electronic devices, glass, and plastic. Together, we can make this a better planet for everyone.
